95 or 98 ron fuel?

Hi everybody. I'm from Slovakia and want to ask you which fuel a have to use in my clio200? In my technical licence stay that i have to use 98 and higher fuel but on german official renault site is written that i can also use the 95 ron but there would be little decrease of power (5%?) . Now im using OMW 95 MaxxMotion, so should i tank the other one (98 and higher)? If is it really nessesary to do that. My car has only 600km so pushing it only to 4000rpm. Thanks for advices and help

I've only ever used Shell V-Power which is 98RON.

I think maybe I've used BP Ultimate once, which is 97RON, in an emergency.

The ECU will manage with 95 but as suggested it will mean will generally lead to a slight power decrease.

A lot of people find they run worse from cold on 95 as well.

It's BP Ultimate (97 RON) for me in Northern Ireland as you can't get any higher.

Only use VPower or Ultimate, both are 98 octane here.
We do have Vpower racing 100 octane but Shell are phasing it out now.

Only have SP95 in my country and it is pretty hot and humid.

I try to use Tesco Momentum when possible. Rest of the time shell std 95. I can't really tell a difference to be honest. You'd be hard pushed to notice a 5% difference in day to day driving.

Mine seemed to run even better again on 102ron. Probably just in my head though after paying 1.8 euros a litre.

Same topic has been discussed to death here and CS. I know most ( including myself ) would recommend only 97-98 and above but to be honest I've run it on 95 before and it still ran smoothly and pulled well.

I bet there 197s out there that have never seen above 95!

like we only get 93 and 95 in our country... 98 was phased out YEARS ago here. so in a emergency we have to do with 93...

Canada goes under 90s. I think they're normal is 87.

And in Japan I think it's all 102RON. Still they do limit all cars to 112mph

I've used Tesco 99 in mine since I've had it but I got sick of all the retards in the Tesco. So I went to the Shell that's opened recently round the corner today and brimmed it with V-Power and it's like a different car.. So much smoother I was very very surprised.

I don't really notice any difference between 95/97/98/99 in terms of performance. Cold start is better on the higher octane fuels and sometimes I think it runs slightly smoother.

Most of the time I put premium in mine but it's really just to make sure the engine stays clean more than anything else.

Thought I should mention this, Shell V Power is different in different countries. In the UK it's 99 RON though in some places it's only 95 RON. It's always worth checking at the pump as it nearly always says there the actual octane rating of the fuel.

On a side note Tesco fuel is total rubbish, I would (and don't) even put it in my lawn mower!!
