4th gear crunch

And i'm out of warranty oh joy

It started the other day on the way to work in 3rd went to go into 4th as usual and crunch it goes:thumb1:

It's ok if i change slowly and smoothly but i have to be careful

Booked into the dealer in a couple of weeks for service and mot and a look at the box, i'm preparing myself for the worst anic:

RUK are involved now fingers crossed for a contribution i hear they can be good like that,the guy i spoke too sounded quite hopeful anyway.

To be honest i would be happy with that mate.

I had mine on service last month- the same problem, 4th gear crounch
And only 16k miles, and out of warranty. . Service costs 800€, Renault covered 50%, so i payed 400€.

I have the same problem.... going into Renault on the 22nd but luckily still in warranty. only done 13k.

I'm just wondering I have issues with my 197 going into gear when cold had the car back like 4 time when it was under warranty they never changed the box only the oil and gear linkage thingy. Could this mean my box is maybe on the way out

I have the same 4th gear crunch!

Has done 14000 miles and is still in warranty. Would i be eligible for replacment for free or do they just service gearbox?

Will phone them and get it booked in, this seems to be a common problem on the forums i have been on:thumb1:

Brenny, that just sounds like the normal characteristic of the gear box. If it starts to crunch then start to panic

Ace, they don't tend to refurbish the boxes when under warranty so its a straight swap for a brand new one.

This is starting to get a little unreal with all these new cases of boxes going, I know of 4 other cases as well.

All this propaganda about gearboxes (and other stuff) prompted me to extend my renault warranty.

Cars three years old in 5 days time so after asking how to on the renaultsport forum i did it online.

£233 spread over 10 months, no charge for monthly payments, mind slightly more at ease.:thumbsup:

When i took mine for its 24k service the other week i told the guy mine crunches going into 2nd gear when cold.
Got a phone call the other day telling me to drop my car off as they had a new gear box for it.
Took it in today for them to change the gear box and 2 x new seats (as they were worn slightly)

mine has done 20K mile and this has just happened to me ... took it to the dealer this morning and they said £2600 for a new box

ive done less than 1500 miles since i bought it!

Took mine in yesterday and they rang me to say they had changed the gearbox oil and that should solve the problem, but that they would confirm in the morning.

Didn't hear from them until after lunch but surprise surprise, that didn't work. I now have to wait until tuesday for them to order a gearbox which they won't have fitted until thursday...

In the meantime, I'm stuck with a 1.2 clio with dealer stickers all over it!! Mortified is not the word!!

Ive been quoted £2200 if i don't get any goodwill from the dealer or ruk.

I feel somewhat reluctant to part with that amount of
my hard earned on a gearbox so might have to keep pussy footing around 4th gear which i can do and get no crunch.

I would definatley push Renault uk. Seems to be a pretty common issue.

I have had it confirmed that I need a new box, however RUK haven't been in touch to advise where I stand, so no car for the weekend. When I know what the situation is I will let you know

a gearbox reconditioners will be able to supply and in some cases fit a replacement gearbox for way less than that!!!!

I was quoted £2000+ from a gearbox specialist to repair mine, hence why I went down the dealer and Renault uk way. Karl quoted me £960+vat for a box without exchange
