2011 OzRenaultsport Nationals

October 13-16 was the 5th annual Ozrenaultsport.com national meet, with participants from 4 states gathering for 4 days of driving alpine roads, a hillclimb event and lots of banter. The numbers peaked at the Saturday night BBQ with 35 Renaultsports gathered in Canberra for a social meet up.

Thursday saw the arrival of a few people from Melbourne, Sydney and Canberra, staying at the Redbank Ski Lodge in Thredbo, in the heart of the NSW Alps. A brief afternoon drive around some local roads was had and then dinner and an early night for a big day of driving on Friday.

Friday was an early start with some making the trip down from Sydney leaving at 4am and arriving at 9am, just in time to meet the group as they headed off in search of some twisty roads and to hunt down apexes. The first road headed towards Khancoban and offered approx. 80kms of bends: http://tinyurl.com/82q4xj5 . The drive continued all day and the crew arrived back at the accommodation just in time for a few quiet beers before dinner, equating to 6-7 hours of driving.

These shots from the Friday drive are thanks to John (Trixie), DanielG and Dish:

We had an early start on Saturday for another epic day of driving. The route was roughly this: http://tinyurl.com/7mhk9lw and it was fun we made it to Canberra by 6pm for a BBQ at a Renault dealer before heading to our accommodation for a couple of quiet ales, and preparing for the hill climb competition on Sunday!

Sunday was the hillclimb event with about 15 Renaultsports entered (among 60 other cars). We performed quite well considering most cars are fairly standard and many haven't done hill climbs before - just goes to show what the cars are capable of straight out of the box! A few action shots I managed to get but most of them were from a mate with my camera as I was driving (the blue 197!):

Wow some amazing pictures there! I wish we had something similar to attend here in the UK. What is "Shannons" on the side of the megane?

As said good shoots there fella, one question tho why has the silver 172 got a sunroof, no RS were ever produced with sunroofs

Wow great pics & nice weather!

I think it use to standard clio & turn to 172. I see a few they done that in cliosport too.

^^^ that 172's sunroof is aftermarket.

Thanks for the comments fellas. RS don't have a huge following, but it is certainly strong. The profile has risen a lot lately with the RS 250 selling very well, though 8)

Nice write up and great pics as always Alex.

BTW, first video is from my 200 - 2nd quickest Clio on the day (by 1/10th of a second)
