200 v Golf R

dude i totally agree on some points there, We have an 08 S3 stage 1 with 310 bhp essentially the same car but the golf is suposedly more aggressive handling wise, The S3 is ballistic and the turbo makes it feel faster than it is the tuning potential in these cars is great but like you say compared to the clio they just cant change direction fast enough, Also many of these engines get mapped as they can see big bhp and thats what everyone wants but they are still a 2l and they do get laggy,

As a daily id take the Audi / golf any day as the 4wd system can be fixed like you say with a haldex upgrade i had one in my mk4 R and loved it and in the snow which seems to be getting more frequent in this country can mean the diffference betweeen making it to maccy d's or not. :-p

But for fun or leasure would be the clio every time!

Cars these days are getting are too fat and even a freind on here who knows his motors chose the clio after driving the megane 250 because he said it felt heavy,

Fast Dubs (and VAGina cars for that matter) are fast, no doubt about it, and most handle to some respectable levels and never fail to impress for build and toy quantity.

Yet ive always found them to be totally numb and lifeless and completely uninspiring to even concider going for a blast.

If i was ever looking for a comfy and quick mile muncher, then VAG cars would most likely be in my top ten...

However i could only ever envisage, parking it on my drive next to the Clio, then returning 5 minutes later to find the Clio humping it...

Im sure this was mentioned on Top Gear but the Clio is like a small dog, show it a bit of excitement and it just goes beserk!

i hated that episode, i hete jeremy clarkson full stop. clio 182 suspension was too soft thats y it kicked up a rear wheel when cornering hard. they slagged it off to kingdom come because it wasnt james mays £80k ferrari, hammonds £130k morgan, or clarksons £160K GT40 all stuck so far up there own jacksies makes me sick

Wouldnt say they slagged it off as such.... just pointed out all the Frenchness in it, as essentially they are crap and you can do better, but thats not what its about

Also Clarkson sold his GT40 back to Ford as it kept breaking down...

hes probly got another yuppy car now lol yeah sorry thats a typo i meant hard lol

I got murdered by Golf R's being pedalled well at the Ring. They are very very capable in the right hands.

those audi\vw trick diffs are something to behold, so much more to 4wd these days than extra grip.

i mentioned on another thread that i'd been fortunate to drive my dads 08 RS4 at cadwell park, and while it was super impressive in terms of lap time and sheer pace it doesn't touch my cup in the area that matters - the smile factor.

and did i mention the price difference?

I love the look of the new golf r, I always like to think thats my next car when I need five doors and grow up!!

It's a different beast though and IMO falls into a different category of hot hatch which should be compared to the Megane, Focus, *3 etc.

Always nice to hear that bhp and toys regardless, the little french throwabout gets your vote Jim!
