100w headlight bulbs

I was looking at getting some brighter bulbs and stublled across some 100w h1 bulbs for my projectors on my 197.
I know there not road legal but i was wondering if anybody has them and if so have you had any problems?

I have read on different forums that the 100w bulbd can melt wires and the plastics.
Is this true and how would i got about avoiding this??

Cheers guys

Yes its true they can melt wires due to the increased current. Can also cause fires.

The only way to stop the wires melting is to replace them with larger gauge wires, a lot more effort than it's worth.

Just get some decent 55W bulbs or a HID kit, should be ok seeing as you have projectors

I know this sound dumb but what exactly are HID's??
Ive heard ppl talk about them but never had them explained!

6000K is a good choice, plenty of pics on here with mine fitted

Are HIDs not gonna be MOT fail soon though?

Grey area to be honest.

The HID's fitted to beam scattering reflectors, will be as they'll be easy to spot.

But, a properly installed kit in a fit for purpose headlight (projector) will be hard to spot by a tester. Unless of course they have the vehicle spec list to hand...
