~£25k used cars

As a really cheap alternative Mazda 6 MPS lol 260bhp 0-60 6.6 (easily lower with a map) 34 mpg not the classiest but something to consider

GT-R is out of the question I'm afraid - I wanted one but I'm not prepared to spend £1000-3000 a year just on servicing!

The M class is an ML63 so I'm not looking for another AMG... Agreed the engine is superb and everyone should experience that but I fancy a change!

M135i is a good suggestion, might look into that! Again with the M5s and 3s.

I'd get laughed at if I bought a £24,000 Subaru but I'd love to have one!!! Not this time though.

S5 is a viable option, they do a nice 5 door too! Red leather is a massive no no so I'd have to find another.

S3/RS3 sportbacks look good too!

Afraid the Vauxhalls are going in the same section as the Subarus. Can't justify the MPG for that performance.

Im surprised no one has suggested a big diesel yet... Had a go in a 335d with the 8 speed auto box yesterday - what a machine! Used to hate driving autos but that box is superb!

Lovely Golf R (I'd have one)

Audi S3 (Id have the golf over this)

Impreza (sort of subtle but not for me)

Audi S5 (certainly not for me plus mileage is a bit higher than you'd like)

M3 Saloon (I'd have one)

As for the M5 I'd stay away unless your going to get one with extended dealer warranty, theres to many electrics that can and do go wrong in the E60 not to mention the clutch.

Yeah the BMW auto box is amazing, my boss has an auto X6 and I love driving it. Im not keen on the image but the engine and box are brilliant. It can certainly shift for such a big car.

S3/RS3 was another that i was going to suggest

Agreed on the red leather, i wouldnt be going for that either!

So what you actually want is a german motor, to replace your german motor :w00t:

The Germans have it sussed!

There's two types of gearbox on the BMWs: one has a traditional mechanically connected gearstick and the other is electronic. It's the electronic one I like - it must be a DSG system, or whatever BMWs equivalent is!

I was really excited by the jaguar f type when it was announced, but it's such a shame they've priced it so ludicrously. £75k for the model you'd want! £50k at a push but no more. Had a little go in one last week and was thoroughly impressed by it but just couldn't get my head around the price...there's no way it feels £75k. I'd buy a 3 year old supercar for that.

Anyway, I'm a bit surprised by the amount and depth of replies in this thread! Thanks so much!

Mate work for BMW and took me out in the new 4 series M sport when it was first released, changes were so quick and smooth

F-type is just a gorgeous car and they sound fantastic! I'd happily own one, but at the price tag theres others id rather..

I have a few test drives this weekend, finance is an option so it's increased my budget slightly - Mercedes A45 AMG, new S3, slightly older RS3, S5/A5, M135i, 430d and a megane 265 if I can find one.

I popped into my local renault sport dealer last weekend to find that they didn't have a single RS megane... Nor a brochure...nor a renault sport 'specialist' that could tell me anything about the car. In fact, the only RS car there was his personal car and it was a Clio 200T (very nice btw, but filthy inside and out). I was shooed out quickly because he had a booking in 10 minutes, not impressed.

265!!! not biased at all haha

Plus the RS3, S5 and A45 AMG get my vote!

Audi shot themselves in the foot when the designed that IMO..

3dr S3 looks miles better, weird why they only made the sport-back thing.

But if you look at a s5 then rs5 there's no competition, same with the other RS'.

While I think of it, I saw one of those A1 Quattro things the other day. Wow they look and sound amazing.. And their quick.

Agree, S3 with 3dr looks better. Meg is similar bhp, more hardcore/track focused and stands out way more (why I listed a meg and not S3). RS3 I still think look good and is a nice 340Bhp

RS5 is obvs better than an S5 but it depends on price difference (not sure on his budget), plus running costs etc

Really? I didn't realise they were in production yet
