    MOT Advisories??

Check which ball joint, chances are it is one that is built into either the outer or inner hub carrier, these are around £230 each. FYI 3 ball joints each side.

    Convertible

I just did the hood on my VX with G-Techniq I1, not had the car outside yet but very easy to use. Prior to that I washed it with Zymol shampoo (like the rest of the car), let it dry and then vac'd it because I had washed with a mitt. So, don't use a mitt, use a microfibre!

One for future reference- Steering issues 197 / 200

I fitted a 200 Cup rack to my 197, no issues there, the standard 200 rack is the same as the 197 rack. Despite this there was still an occasional clunk. Wasn't from the rack seemed to be from the UJ or electric motor.

    197: What to do!?

Fiesta ST must be better than 138. 138 has almost nothing in common with 197 other than some trim and doors, suspension completely different, RenaultSport had to completely redesign as standard suspension was rubbish.

    RalphyBMW's new toy

Thanks guys, it is so so different from a normal car. You are so involved with everything, can hear and feel everything. Vaux badge at the front will be staying, rear might not as the paint is filthy within all three badges. I have never been so excited about a car. A few cold damp mornings...

    RalphyBMW's new toy

As some may know, I sold my 197 at the beginning of the year; I put on the market in late 2011 in the hope of buying a Z4 or Boxster before the spring. While the Clio was on the market I acquired an old Focus to smoke around in so that the Clio stayed presentable for anyone wanting to view...

    Tyre Pressure Monitor..

Very few 197's had this, I don't think it was ever offered on the 200.

Any lights/problems with removing rear seatbelts?

The rear belts do have pretensioners so I would expect a fault light if removed.

    Doors

Yes, cup for cup or FF for FF. I have some spare FF door cards if you are after some.

    Exhaust Manifold leak

If you have Renault SH then you will prob get a goodwill contribution. New one is around £700 plus 4 hrs or so labour. It was my manifold failing, amongst other things that really knocked my confidence in the car.

    Massively torn...

I have said it before and will say it again, is a 197 really special enough to be a weekends only garage queen?

    Porsche Boxster S

Really nice. A 986 S or 996 3.6 are definitely on my list, 987 still too expensive for me. Probably no more expensive to maintain than an older 197 and a lot classier.

    One bad 197 to go

Depends what you are going to use the car for, if your daily commute involves challenging roads then you may miss a manual, if you do lots of traffic or built up areas then you probably won't. Besides you could buy something cheap and fun with the fuel savings!

Quick Question regarding 6 CD Changer

Depending on what you want, there are easier solutions. I fitted a parrot Mki9200, full iPod control and Bluetooth

    BTM Performance

Don't forget however that while your warranty will remain valid, your chances of getting a goodwill contribution outside of the warranty period will reduce.

    Cup Steering Rack on FF200

The racks are different, but I didn't find it particularly noticeable. That was with 197 Cup suspension. It certainly wasn't a mod I would repeat. Then again I didn't think there was much noticeable benefit in changing to Cup suspension, the standard car is just so capable on track.

    Cup Steering Rack on FF200

197 Cup rack is the same as standard 197, no difference at all.

    Oil Change

The use of engine flush is a whole can of worms, general consensus seems to be that it is best avoided, especially if the engine is properly maintained. Something interesting to note from reading some magazines is that more frequent oil changes are commonly recommended; just changing the oil...

    Fitting Cup Dampers/H&R's yourself

Nothing especially complicated about it, but you will probably need spring compressors. I wasn't actually there when mine was done, but from what I can gather it was straightforward as most FWD cars.
