My E36 runs linear rear separate springs currently, they can be had for very cheap to try (just work out lengths and make sure the droop is set correctly on the damper so spring won't fall out) but again depends on the gaps / angle of spring plate etc (E36 has a spring arm, not a beam)

It's on coilovers, you can see the adjustable rings on the damper. The front you can adjust back up, but the rears have had the 2nd locking collar removed so means they wanted it just super low. They look like KTECs cheap coilovers to me.

I don't know the size (as I have had parallel punches for years) but I start it off with a bigger round flat ended to get it moving, then you want the correct size so it will fit into the hole / length that will guide it out. Just buy a set of good quality parallel punches and you'll be good to go.

Aren't cotter pins what you use on castle nuts (the long thin ones you then bend outwards)? Wouldn't really work in this application (well would work but be a pain in the arse to remove haha).

As long as you go from the same side (both start on soft, or both start on hard on each axle) it doesn't really matter, I always went from soft (that's what she said) and never had a problem.
