New owner 197 in Glasgow

Hi all. I am not new to Renaultsport Clios as I had a new 172 back in 2003 and loved it. Last week I bought my wife an 08 plate 197 in black. I got it very cheap (£1800) as it has some issues, namely:

blown exhaust - flexi - new flexi welded in
four baldy tyres - tyres replaced
alloy wheels needing refurbished - refurbed in black
audio player missing - replaced with oem unit but aux cable not being detected?
dent in n/s door - on list to do
o/s/r wheel not sitting right - think rear axle is bent...arghhhh

The images are before any work carried out20181001_152054.jpg 20181001_152106.jpg

Welcome along ahha  What's your plans?
Well the wife had a jcw mini and wrote it off a few weeks ago and needed a replacement car. I saw the neglected Clio on fb and thought it looked like a decent replacement. As is always the case, bargains are often bargains for a reason and this is no exception.

I have no plans other than stock tbh at this time and carried out a number of the jobs requiring immediate attention. I need to replace the rear axle as soon as possible as it appears to be bent and cannot get the wheel alignment set until I sort this. Also I have no evidence of cambelt replacement so this is on my urgent to do list also. Longer term I will also need a small dent on the door repaired and some replacement front seats as they are pretty gubbed.

Yeah! Looks like you got a fairly decent spec there too though. Xenons, cup chassis and spoiler etc. Also, no one has plans other than 'stock', well i think for most anyway. Most get carried away with these clios haaha!

Welcome and enjoy the car!

If I remember correctly the aux cable plugs into the CD Changer socket on the back of the radio unit.

...and some replacement front seats as they are pretty gubbed.

There's currently a pair of Recaros on ebay if you're feeling flush, otherwise the standard seats can be picked up reasonably when they're around. A decent option is having the bolsters repaired, if you need the code for the original Renault fabric to give your trimmer let me know.

I got the aux cable working....didnt realise it had to be activated by holding the "expert" button.

The codes for the bolster and centre squab cloth would be great if you have it

Welcome to the forum!

It sounds like you have a bit of a project on your hands, but good on you for taking it on and committing to getting it all sorted! Very rewarding cars, you won't regret the effort you put in!

Just a quick update. I have replaced the rear beam and the rear o/s wheel is sitting fine now....phew. However, I noticed after driving it that one of the rear brakes was binding badly. Upon investigation the handbrake cable is on its way out so I will have to get one tomorrow.

Also noticed that there is a lot of play in the n/s front track rod end, so still not managed to get the wheel alignment done and it feels a bit twitchy and the wheel not centered.

Lastly, I have cured the "boy racer" horrible exhaust note by welding in an oe centre silencer box....what a busy wee day.
