Ultra Red 200 Cup FF

Some more fluids have arrived over the last couple of days.

After much deliberation I opted for ELF NFP 75w80 Gear Oil. Having looked at ELF NFJ, Redline and others I decided on the NFP (thanks to @peter and @Antti O). It’s worth mentioning I don’t have any gearbox issues but the car is over 8 years old now and with no record of it being changed, now is as good a time as ever.

Again I deliberated over brake fluid. I’ve been considering getting the car on track now for several months. My attention and energy, along with saving, has been going towards us moving house but I would like to get the car on track in the near future. I had Motul RBF660 in my Megane and it was mega. I had thought about it along with RBF600 but the reviews on TYP200 are positive so thought I would give it a go!

What are people’s thoughts on braided brake lines? Some companies offer 4 line and 6 line kits (only difference being the 6 line kit includes lines from the rear axle to the calipers). I’ve actually never fitted braided lines to any car before. Are they worth the expense?

Braided brake lines, if I'm honest I didn't really feel much difference Eddie. However I like that they're theoretically a one time fit & don't need replacing. However my front braided lines were fitted by my local Renault dealer & badly routed leading to an MOT failure due to wear on them. To pass the MOT I had Renault lines fitted on the front. I did, however get K-Tek braided lines put on at the next service as they come with the clips to hold them in place & I've had no issues since. The 1st set of lines was a six line set I got from Proline motorsport on here (also on FB). When they heard of my issues they did say that I should've received the clips to route the front lines & they must've had an off day when dispatching mine. Pity coz I had them in a "funky" purple colour,(lots of colours available) which I really like, but the K-Tek front lines are boring black! Six line set I like as it means you have no rubber parts to perish. I'd probably order a 6 line set from Proline myself in your position.

Cheers John! It was actually Pro Line who I had contacted via Facebook. Hadn’t realised they on here also. 6 line sounds the way to go. Just thought I may aswell have them changed at the same time as the brake fluid.

It’s never ending....I’ll be buying pads next too lol...

Got the car back today after having the work carried out.

Work carried out;
Oil and filter chance
Gear oil change
Brake fluid change
Bottom ball joints (o/s and n/s replaced)
Rear brake calipers changed
Wheel alignment
Front speaker replaced (n/s)

All in all very happy and the car feels great. There is still a slight knock coming from the n/s which we believe to be a shock. Due to the amount of speed bumps around my area I’m not surprised and will have both front shocks replaced soon.

Couldn’t get to the bottom of the coolant loss but I will have that checked out again once I’m having the shocks replaced.

Certainly is good to have peace of mind that all fluids (except coolant) have been refreshed and have I have a clean bill of health (except the shock).

Glad to have the old girl back

I too have the n/s knock what I was going to do was change the lower arms but before doing that I was going to swap the shock assemblies around and see if the knock goes from the n/s to the o/s. It's more curiosity than anything else but I had put new anti rotation links, drop links, shocks and springs at the start 3 - 4 years ago. Since then I've changed the drop links again, new front shock top bearing and mount, anti roll bar bushes the knock remains even after the inner and outer tie rods both sides have been changed. It can only be the bottom arm knocking as it twists in the sub frame mount on the rear bushing or possibly the bushing inside steering rack I have one of them but did not fit it as I could not feel any play when changing the track rod ends. I seems like the noise if going over a speed bump is on the down side of the speed bump rather than on the up face see if it is the same for you and let me know.

The knock for me happens going up a speed bump and back down again. I would say it’s more pronounced on the way down though.

I had a similar knock in my 197 and replaced the ball joints and shocks at the same time and the noise was cured so that’s why I’m going to replace the shock and see how it goes. They aren’t too expensive anyway, around £60 inc VAT.

Some trim removal tools are handy. Follow the guide on speedo removal/changing clocks in the how to guide Eddie. Helped no end

Fiddly but easy doable
Oh Ben, you're making me feel like a wimp! Never been into spannering, lack of confidence & worries about getting stuck with an undrive-able car in the garage! You seem to have a new found confidence, good on you!

How easy is the swapping or the overlay on the instrument panel aswell? Is it simply enough? Might tackle it tomorrow.
