Clio 197 Ultra Red 2007 from Finland. April, time to start driving.

While doing the flexi's job either the trigger cable or the main power cable to the starter might have sustained some damage and now it broke

PS: First thing I would do would be to get under the car and manually try to make the starter work by connecting the trigger to the main power cable with a bit of wire

Yep, you might be in the right track.
We discussed about this in irc channel this morning, and there was also this idea.
We will see later, when this specialist have time to check it.

A battery can die in a night, they don’t nescesarily get worse over time...

Happens frequently in England on colder months

Yes i know we have -30celsius in wintertime.
Different symptoms usually it only clicks solenoid or really slow crank when flat battery.
First thing was jumper cables and power from another car.. no help.

Didn't you had a loose barrel recently? Some wire might have gone bad with all that movement where it shouldn't happen...

Correct. I told this yesterday for that garage who is trying to fix my car.
Nothing new so far.. no any solution.

Tracking completed.
Not so much to adjust, but little tweaking.
Now i can be sure that wrong tracking would not eat my michelins.

Some plans for winter months, car will be in heated garage between october-may:

- Car detailing wash, + reload product for ceramic coating
- Wheel well wash
- Wheel wash inside/outside
- Brake caliber cleaning / maintenance
- Car floor mats, seats etc will be washed with fabric washer
- Right rear door speaker grill tweak (rattling)..
- Oil change in January 2019 (oil change interval will be something like 1500miles).
- New coating for windscreen

This summer has been quite mad for this car. Ultra low usage.

- only 1 time in rain
- approx 1000 miles in total 2018..
- 0 miles in gravel road.

What happened to be the issue with the ignition?

When exhaust manifold was removed/refitted, it dented / moved starter heat shield which is located really close exhaust manifold.

Heat shield misalingment caused short circuit in starter switched +12v. Fuse blown.
Now heat shield is in correct position and car works fine.

Sorry to read and see the problems you have had with the car recently Antti. I love reading your thread and admire the dedication you have keeping it 100%.

On a side note, I’m also a huge fan of the Microfibre Madness range. I opted for the Incredipad XL as I don’t really like mitts. Car looks awesome as per usual

Hello again from north.
This september has been nice for its weather and i dont have any panic to get 197 for my garage. In fact, BMW is kaputt once again.. rear diff seal is leaking lot of oil. I hope it will be fixed soon. I have all parts in stock, but my friend will fix it when he have time for it.

Clio 197 will be tracked once again, because steering is not in center.

Hi, thanks!
It takes a lot of work to first do paintwork correction, coatings and then try to keep it in perfect state..

Now i will tell you story how to make stupid mistake in car washing and what will be result.

Previous week our primary parking area in my work was reserved for other use.
Because of that, clio was near large spruce trees.
I thought that only trees which have leafs can coat car with tree sap or aphid waste.
I WAS WRONG..
There was storm and rain all over week when i was work. Car was covered with all kind of stuff from trees.
Friday when i did my weekly wash, i saw that car paint was covered with tree sap or something which was more like wet/sand paper feel than absolut smooth and flat clearcoat. :frowning:

I was tired about my week at work, and i washed car with normal mitt and after that i took my clay mitt from garage.
I soaked it in shampoo and it was easy to use and all tree sap gone after 2-3 passes over roof for example.

Clay mitt

I thought, okay that did the job.
In the evening i parked car in my open garage which has good led lights.
When i saw car left side (this part was repainted 2017 may). It has swirls all over from back to front.. NOOO
Maybe i did not had enough shampoo between paintwork and clay mitt.

I completed many washes for this car and never caused swirls, i have top equipment for washing. Also summer drive only preservers paintwork.

Only solution for me is to fix swirls and do ceramic coating again. In that level i want, there is just 1 man who can do this. It will be same guy who did it 1 year ago.
Car is now under work and i hope it will ready in sunday. There will be same ceramic coating re-applied because machine polishing will take old coating off.

You have to VERY CAREFUL with clay mitt / claybars..
I have done many car contamination cleans with this same clay mitt (BMW for example), and never caused this bad swirls. I dont know is the problem that clio left side which was repainted laqcuer is soft.
