MS 200 fun road and track car - and other car stuff!

MX2000 dyno went well yesterday, numbers lined up pretty well with the previous roller interface run and showed what I hoped in terms of hub numbers.

Hub dynos are quite different and will tend to read lower than a roller interface would calculate whp as. For this reason you have to use an unrealistic multiplier to give a comparable ‘flywheel’ figure that you might expect to achieve on a roller dyno. It’s a bit of a rabbit hole tbh but the hub number are very reliable and repeatable, I have lots of runs on the same dyno that form excellent points of comparison.

Big number at the top is 300bhp at the hubs, using their multiplication factor for the sake of comparison, they would expect 385-390 flywheel bhp on a roller dyno. This ties in fairly neatly with the 376bhp recorded on a traditional dyno whilst tuning.

Main reason for the trip was to compare to the naturally aspirated run I did there, which made 190 @ hubs. So the charger has given me 110bhp at the hubs or +58% power!

In all things French I dropped The Terrier off at Birchdown this morning and can’t wait to pick it up later!!!

@Matt Scarbro ... matt, why did you go for the koni's in stead of bilstein's B14? is it because they're adjustable? i'm still undecided between these two set ups.

am i correct in thinking you'll be using the clio more on the road than on track?

just started watching your vid but gotta go to work (last day-half term :thumb: ) but will continue when im back in..

About a week with the Koni/H&R combo on so some brief thoughts and findings:

The Konis work perfectly with the Compbrake top mounts, though the mounts mean you can’t use the Koni adjusters at the front. Long nose pliers do the job until I can make a tool.

The kit definitely improves both ride and handling.

That said, given the hard oem Cup suspension, I expected the bigger improvement to be in ride. The reality is the opposite, ride quality has improved a little, when travelling at speed perhaps a lot. The damping is much improved and the control is better but it’s still bumpy, especially at low speeds.

The handling and grip have improved quite markedly, a similar improvement to going to the AD08Rs from budget tyres perhaps. Having only tried the shocks on full soft, this was much more of an improvement than I expected and really emphasised what the car is all about! :grimacing:

For a more road biased car, I think the Konis with Eibach or other softer springs would be the better choice.
In fact I’m trying to work out if that’s the case for me!

Happily I don’t have a daily commute, so the deciding factor will be how the car feels on the twisty A and B roads in the countryside once we get moved over to Lincs! I’m hopeful that it will be great!

In terms of looks, I think I might prefer it just a touch higher, then I see it directly from behind and I think it looks badass!
It would be nice to pop some small spacers on at the front, maybe do that at the same time as a stud conversion...

For what I paid (~£550 as I bought them when the pound temporarily peaked against the euro), I think they’re a cracking upgrade. Even at UK rrp of ~£650 I think they stack up very well tbh. :thumb:

where did you get them from then?

one more question (promise it's the last request) ... i understand you can adjust them via a top mounted dial, right? could you post a photo of how that looks under the hood and in the boot? cheers.

i think the car sits perfect, btw.

No probs with questions Peter, there were lots I would have asked had anyone else been using them!

I got them from eBay.de, I think the invoice says funsport24 from memory.

I will take pictures of the adjusters when it’s light and I’m with the car.
Rears are simple, just move the trim carpet in the boot. Front require the scuttle cover to be pulled back and top mount covers removed, so a bit of a faff. That said it also keeps them clean and looks standard!

MOT and alignment tomorrow, Birchdown gave it a good check so fingers crossed there are no surprises!
