Matt's Glacier White Megane 265 - 4th time lucky!

I've recently realised that I don't spend enough money and time on my car, in the hope that it will give me some motivation I thought I would start a progress thread. It might be slow moving but please just bear with me.

Although the car looks pretty clean there is plenty of cosmetic things that need sorting, door seals replacing etc to bring it back to it's former glory.

As it stands the car is fully standard apart from an Akrapovic exhaust and I don't have many plans outside maintenance but I thought I'd put a list together so I can mark things off as I go.

Plans are as follows -

Alloy Refurbishment
Recaro repair
Paint sorted under rear window (hopefully through warranty)
New front and rear discs - Possily OEM Brembo or Mtec
New front and rear pads - Possibly Brembo or Mintex M1144
Brake fluid change
Gearbox oil change
Ktec induction kit
R27 door and roof decals (Crazy I know, but i'm very tempted to pay the price)
Spare key (Foolishly lost mine at some point)
Steering wheel Refurbishment
Change exhaust tips (not fully happy with the current ones)

I've just ordered some Silvatec indicator bulbs, rear quarter glass seal replacements and a Powerflex upper engine mount torque arm which will hopefully arrive and be fitted this weekend! I still have the brilliant carbon manifold badge and expansion bottle cover from Shuv to fit too.

Thought I'd add a couple of pictures to show how the car stands after a clean last week:

My well documented soft-spot for a 197 in this colour has just been fed !

Looks LOVELY Matt. And even better in R27 guise with the decals IMO.

Why the heck havn't we seen more of this car before

Looking forward to following this, and you crossing jobs off the to-do-list as you go.....................

Thanks for the kind words Shuv.

I bought the car around 3 years ago and have pretty much just drove it. Apart from its yearly service nothing has changed to document apart from the exhaust. Although I feel like I've kept it well maintained there's still some signs of its age showing now and a few bits like brake discs I haven't changed since purchasing that need replacing.

Hopefully I will keep this thread up to date and get the jobs done at a steady pace. More than anything I want to try and be a bit more involved in the forum, get me arse in gear and come to some meets!

Great idea a progress thread Matt.
As above... better late than never!

Keep us all posted. We love pictures as well:grinning:

Matt, car is looking fantastic. Clearly in really nice condition not withstanding your list of things it needs.

Brave man buying the roof decal!!! Hope it goes well, I do think they look fantastic with the full pack.

Good on you for starting the thread to kick yourself up the backside. Don't worry we'll keep the pressure on!

Plus one on the full sticker pack, I think that's what makes the r27 at the end of the day and I'm not one for stickers I can tell you!

Always get when the only ones on the car are front and rear or just the door ones without the roof decal they always look fake and stuck on to make if look like an r27!

I know everyone has different tastes but that's just my own thoughts on it

Car looks lovely btw and the seats look pretty good to me!

Thank for the kind comments Mes! The car itself is in pretty good condition, the paintwork looks great on photos but could probably do with a proper detail when the funds allow as close up there are some swirl marks.

The roof decal is at the bottom of the to do list and I think I would be pretty mad to spend that money (not actually got a concrete price yet, I know they are MEGA expensive though) but if I am keeping the car for the long haul, which it looks like I am I would love the full decal set!

After seeing Tractor Boy and numerous other cars on here at such a high standard I thought it was about time to throw money at it when funds allow to get it back to 100%. I am currently contemplating getting another car as my daily (as well as keeping the R27) so I can keep the mileage down a little and just use the car for fun on weekends as I hate just running the car just a couple of miles a day to work and back but I want to get the things on my list done first before I look at buying another car as I know they will just never get done.

They really do make the R27! If I was more knowledgeable about the cars when I bought it I might have held out for one with the full set but then again this car has been pretty good to me so I might have saved the money for decals in the lack of repairs it's needed (touch wood) over the years.

Thanks for the kind comments, it's the drivers upper bolster and passenger lower (that my girlfriend has caused!!!) that need repairing.. they are in good condition otherwise.

Some goodies have arrived today! Might try get these fitted today, although it's just started raining here so might be a job for the weekend.

Swirl marks, dont' get me started. The previous owner of our car took it to any old random hand car wash!!! It's literally covered in swirl marks and sadly I'm no detailer so it's staying as it is until other things are done and we can afford a proper job on it. At least we know it's not getting any worse now it's in our hands.

Roof decal... somewhere between £6-700 i think!!! Honestly, I'd be SO impressed if you went the whole hog. I do think they look fantastic with the full pack.

Definitely get the daily if you can stretch to it mate. It will really make the R27 feel so much more special when you get in it.

The car looks mega clean as it is Matt, however I feel your pain with the swirl marks! Mine is the same, but not surprising given the age and mileage. Yet another +1 on the roof decal if you decide to go for it - big money, but IMO all R27s should have the full set on Sadly mine was specced as decal delete by the original owners, so I'm without :worried: far too much money for me to justify spending...

Looking forward to the progress you make with it Matt, and with you being a fellow Yorkshireman I hope to see you at a meet soon.

I'm in the same boat, there is somewhere nearby that is meant to be really good at detailing but as you've said I'm no detailer and not sure what the extent of the damage is or what the cost would be.. it looks ok for now so it can wait!

It's madness the price isn't it plus there is no way on this earth I would be fitting it myself! So the roof, doors and fitting you're looking at well over a grand.. That's a deposit on a new daily that! Time will tell if i'm brave (stupid) enough - I'm more concerned that they will stop stocking them as the cars 10 years old now!

I could probably stretch to a daily but I keep finding myself getting carried away looking at expensive cars when really I just want something to take me to work and back and be more practical.. but still look good. I've been tempted to get a decent car as my daily but I feel the R27 would just be forgotten about then. Time to do some thinking, I'm just glad I decided to keep the R27 as I was so close to trading it in last month!

A grand would buy you a daily mate! All depends how much you care about driving a shitbox!

As for the roof decal, I think you're right. They can't have made many and they're not going to last forever. We have a tiny bit of damage to ours where a bird decided to attack the car while we were on the motorway. It's small enough that no one will notice but I know it's there and it bugs me. No way we're stretching to a new one though!

Yeah definitely Jimmy, I am amazed of how many good examples of these cars are still about 10 years on and a lot of the best examples are on this forum!

I can't believe Renault offered/people went for the delete option, I know it's only some stickers but it massively makes the car for me - Looking back at the press photos it was a big selling point for me, they make the R27 the stand out like the special model that it is.

It will be slow and steady Jimmy but I will hopefully get there in the end, I'm looking forward to attending a some meets soon and always keeping my eye out.
