Deaks Nimbus 197

Update 17/05/2015

Firstly it's been so long since ive done a progress update that Flickr has changed the way you upload photos onto this site. Any ideas?! Found it..

So this is in no real order but I'll just ramble om for abit..

So this time last year ish.
I went for a trackday to Brands Hatch Indy in the pouring rain, I wasn't driving but i just wanted to get a feel for it. So I met up with some of the forum lot and got to passanger im Kennys 200T with KWs and Petes R27 with no tyres! We had sideways moments at every corner!

After that, I decided that yes I did want to try a trackday and with slightly better weather greating us to say the least.. Dawesy0712 and I had a day out at Bedford on the GT circuit. My 197 was completely standard bar HR springs and 8J OZs with Kumho KU39s on the fronts and worn Yoko AD08s on the rears. The car is a machine in the bends as I knew from fast road use, but pushing the limits in a track environment is well worth it. The Kumhos went off after a while but until then handled very well and on road they're amazing for the price. Had some good and sucessful battles with golf gtis, civic type Rs and some stock beamers. Highlights being massive lift off over steer and an RX7 on cold slicks diving down my inside into a tight corner (first one out of the pits) and spinning out.

After that day I wanted more focused tyres, trackday pads and new fluids etc.

I had aquired a set of projectors from a member. I was really happy at first but it appears they were not the most trust worthy.. The hid kit they had used was an ebay special and not the correct one so this was replaced with 6.5K bulbs and I love the new look. One of the headlight motors had failed also so whilst the bumper was off this was changed too.

After reading forum posts about cleaning seat belts i decided to do just that, I never realised quite how bad they actually got! I used standard washing powder and used the isofix bar in the rear to dry them. I thought i was funny because it looked like a cage..

Whilst this was being done and the battery was disconnected. I installed the resistor kits for my new to me recaros! I had a few ideas with retrims and changing stitching colours to red etc but at the moment I will stay OEM.

At 38K miles my steering wheel has seen better days, therefore, Ive got the help of royalsteeringwheels for a retrim. The scheme Ive gone for is black alcantara north and south with perforated black nappa leather east and west with red stitching and a red north strip! When i change the wheels over im also going to be sending the cruise control buttons to spray shack to be sprayed red with white airbrushed decals to finish off the look. Also with my brand new RS steering wheel trim.

Also waiting to go on is a set of TPI bolts in black with locking nuts, and a possible respray of the calipers in red.

Current items to be brought are:
4x Nankang NS-2Rs

Always looking out for:
Cup spoiler!

Pictures to follow!

PB compared to Flickr is dire buddy  It's just annoying thay they've changed how you do it. Before you could just copy a url!

Deaks nice write up mate. Bedford was a top day, just wish I had some decent tyres rather than Chinese specials. Oh you also forgot to mention that you need a new exhaust.

Hahaaa you're right Pete, I've already done a write up on it. Didn't realise it was so long ago Hahaha.

Do you know how to get new style flickr photos on?

Those red stitched Recaros are soooooo nice!!! :001_tt1:

Bedford is an awesome track too, get in some more track days over the summer

Retrim baby!

Top marks to Jack at Royal Steering Wheels.

I went for red stitch and centre strip, black alcantara north south and black perforated nappa leather east west. Just need to send the cruise control buttons off to SprayShack to be sprayed red with white OEM decals!

Mot due on Thursday along with tax on the first. Moniessss. Needed some new rubber and currently have winter and summer wheels. So goodbye to the Ad08/ku39 combo. Had a good trackday on them and they held well, kumhos went off after a while but great in the wet too, just a good all round tyre.

Now time for NS-2Rs for summer and Rainsport 3s for winter!

Also gave the OZs a quick coating of poorboys whilst they were off! Ive just brought an impact wrench for 40 quid off of Amazon. It plugs into the cig lighter and packs a punch! Wheels came off so unbelievably quick!

Currently have the week off so decided to re-paint the calipers. Ive gone for a more tradition red with white brembo decals. Time to say goodbye to the orange!

Cup racer spoiler baby!

With the racer end plates, they're smooth compared to the normal carbon fibre effect ones.

Therefore im thinking along the lines of Lotus and Carrera Cup racers, with the Union Jack end plates. Thoughts?!

The carbon ends do look awesome, I'd be tempted to just wrap them in that. I think the Union Jack flags on the end might just look cheap/tacky.

If you want something different, might be cool if you could get some R.S logos on the end, similar to the RS wheel center caps.

Replacing the old wheel was harder than I thought to get out. The technique I went for incase anyone else wants a go is to unclip the retaining clip when the wheel is upside down, rotate the wheel 180 degrees and then whilst applying pressure upwards on the clip with one hand, pulling the airbag towards you with the other hand20150527_164339_zpsyntjscod.jpg

The finished article, it feels so chunky in my hand and completely transforms my driving experience. I wish I had done it sooner!

New setup on: 4x Nankang NS-2Rs, black TPI bolts, the painted Red Brembos and the old Ultra's.

Test fitting of the cup spoiler. I still need to actually drill the holes..

Looks great!

Miss the orange brembos though tbh, they really suited it and was something different!

Perhaps just a small union jack at the bottom of the end plates in the corner or something, dont think the whole end will look good..?
