Yiannis' Albi Blue R27 - Toning down...

thanks Siso, hope they guys clarified it for you.

It must be something to do with the additional air intake which is normally to the right side of the engine bay, which Yiannis has removed because he has the KTR induction kit

As he has fitted the induction kit the acoustic valve is no longer needed. So you just put a bung on the throttle body.

Cheers guys.

Hi all,

Just came back from my yearly Alpine tour, this year we did a bit of black forest (Germany), Switzerland, a bit of Italy and mainly France. Great sceneries, astonishing roads, and magnificent drives…what else could a petrolhead ask for:wink: tenths of passes, great and petite St Bernard, furka, susten, col de turini (simply astounding), Alpes du huez, la platriere (everyone HAS to drive through there), la bonette and the list goes on and on. 8 days of pure driving pleasure, 1 day chilling in French Riviera and 2 days on boring motorways.

The car performed brilliantly. All the drives on the twisties/passes were in anger and the more I’d push it the better it’d get. Phenomenal grip, even in the wet. The aggressive geo and thicker antiroll bar did make a difference while the full stiff rear made the car stupidly stable at high speed corners, - even when braking at the same time - even on bumpy roads which wasn’t surprising given the monotube nature of the ASTs (awesome spring control etc). So much win there, however not everything else followed that trend.

I’m afraid to say that I run out of brakes again, on the very first day! Last year my setup was totally stock so that going tits up was not a surprise. This year though, brake fade hadn’t even crossed my mind! 330mm pf discs, ferodo ds2500 all around and ATE fluid? What else do I have to do then? At the beginning the pads started to smell but I carried on pushing as I was confident that they couldn’t be mine, then the fluid boiled and as a result the pedal went:worried: Therefore and since day 1, I took the downhills much easier. Gutted from that respect because downhills are so much fun!!

Anyway, some pics:smile:

Looks awesome Yianni, the pictures and scenery are first class.
I can only imagine it has been an amazing few days, matched with a good few beers along the way.

i can wait for our 6 day road trip in a couple of weeks now

on the brake side of things, I can only suggest trying some Motul fluid, I've also boiled the ATE fluid on the Trophy within a few 20minute sessions at Bedford.
But on the contrast, never had a problem with the Motul RBF on the Escos or FRS, so I tried this on the Trophy and never had a problem since.

Cheers guys.

Kelv and faithlessEmo, thanks for the advice. Motul 660 has to go in at some point prior to next years trip. tbh braking is more than sufficient under normal road driving condition (including the odd spirited drive) but when things get demanding then ATE is not good enough. Maybe I should consider a different pad as well? I'll do a search when time comes but any recommendations are more than welcome:smile:

everyone has a pad they either do, or dont get on with.
ive stuck with the DS2500 and DS3000's over the years, they seem to work well for me, although i have heard many say the 2500's can crumble, but thats due to over heating issues and not allowing them to cool off as they become a tad brittle.

off topic, ive only ever known one other Yianni, and he was from the north london area aswell.
he actually wrapped the roof on my Focus RS a couple of years back (Yiannimize Refined)

Seriously? That explains the fact that you call my name the right way (without 's' at the end) ha! On the other hand, Yiannis is a very common Greek name, you pop to a bar in Greece, you shout 'Yiannis' and then 1/3 of men turn and look your way!

Where are you off for a week then Kelv? Within UK or around Europe?

to be honest, id not even clocked on it was a Greek name, but then when you mention it... of course it would be
my only experience of the greek islands would have been 12 years back in my younger days having a lads holiday in Zante.

the trip for us is our second yearly ring trip, but we are going for 6 days this time, taking a bit longer to get there, and doing an additional day going 'somewhere' on the return leg, no such route planned as yet, it will be discussed during the days at the ring and then ad-lib it on the way back towards blighty.

ive started taking the Trophy apart, so it only gives me 3 weeks to get the car ready, and ive still not even picked up the R27 yet, doh!!

Thanks guys!

Kelv that sounds awesome mate. Make sure you stick some pics up and obviously make a project thread for your R27 as soon as you start ''working'' on it:wink:

Of course mate. The phone number is 0208 542 9672, I spoke to a woman named Denise and apparently they keep them in stock. I paid around £60 each plus postage. The work involved is quite a lot really as they had to take everything apart, but the ball joint itself came out easily, they didn't even have to heat the hub. Then obviously you'd need to get it tracked which adds to the expenses...

Hope that helps Jonesy.

Thanks Rogue:smile: The K-tec boys were quite impressed with the interior.

Did u have any orobs in trying to get of them?

Didnt pass you did i somewhere on your trip?! I swear i remember seeing a Albi 197 and thinking "i swear thats Yiannis"

Ive just got back from a very similar 2 week trip!

Looks epic mate.
