do it anyway even if you can?? the hdd has various moving parts in it that probably still work, it may not be completely fubar

Select the cmd line option and then type:

chkdsk /f /r

Or

chkdsk /f /r c

And hit enter.

Both equate to the same thing. We'll see though shame you're not nearby lee.

Yea, tis a shame. Itll be going to a local pc shop i think. I just dont get time to pop back to mum and dads to try and sort it. And really dont fancy losing any data

you could also try sfc /scannow via cmd prompt
