Recently became the happy owner of my Liquid Yellow R27 #172. After trawling the forum I came across this progress thread of the same car 4 years ago!

    http://www.clio197.net/threads/peters-r27-progress.31288/

The car was registered in Scotland, I bought it from Shropshire and I live in Sussex so it has travelled a bit!
Since the end of the previous build thread the car was treated to a Milltek cat back system, other than that it's pretty much the same.
    Here's how I collected it
    IMG_2141.JPG
So far I've replaced a missing wheel centre cap, replaced the front grilles where they had been previously painted black and had flaked off and I've also bought a private plate for it. IMG_2168.JPG

Service, MOT, Air-con re-gas, lambda sensor and a pair of Continentals going on next week.

My plans are to tidy up some usual wear (seat bolsters, steering wheel, alloy wheel refurb). Also thinking about an ITG induction kit and perhaps a decat then a map.

Just getting used to the car at the minute and I have to say it is awesome so far!

Plans as above, mainly tidying it up. I'll get on with those grilles at the weekend and let you know how they come up if you're interested in them

Good start to ownership! Small, but important things in the plans, and sounds like they will all help to get the car looking and feeling mint!

Looks great buddy. Plate is the the mutts-nuts too.

Good on you for sorting mechanicals first and foremost. Those bits will always 'look after you' for it. And it will drive the better for it to. And THATS what its all about at the end of the day....however good you look

Enjoy. As you clearly are !

Looking great mate. You are going about your project the right way, getting all the wee things done first. It's amazing how so many people overlook or underestimate a nice numberplate.

Bit more progress. Took it for MOT and service today, MOT not a problem. Re-gassed the air con and turns out the pump's had it so need to find one of those. But the worst bit and it's pissed me off a little bit to be honest, I happily bought the car knowing the cam belt had been done recently but whoever did it decided to leave the old water pump on and now it's failed and is leaking. So now I've got to replace that and while I'm there may as well do the cam belt at the same time.

New radiator support bracket needed too as mine is heavily corroded. Though I understand this is common and not too expensive, and I did know that it was bad when I bought it.

But on a more positive note, I've spoken to Capital Seating regarding re-trimming the worn bolsters on my recaros and they've come back with a fair price to replace the material with the same Renault material it would have come with, as I understand they would have trimmed the seats from new so it will be a proper job.

I've also placed an order with Royal Steering Wheels for a new wheel and gear gaiter so can't wait for that.

So this journey is fully on now and it turns out I need deep pockets for this one. But if a jobs worth doing, it's worth doing right, right?

Oh yeah, does anyone know who deals with ordered forum stickers? I ordered some last week, just wondered how long they usually take?

    Cheers

Good man. Always nice to see someone showing a Clio some love. Worth it in the long run for certain.

Bit of a gutter about the shady maintenance from the previous owner but that's always a risk. What can you do?

Interior will look glorious once the retrim and new wheel are in.

Thanks. I've had the car just over a week and I've steamed into all the work so quickly so the cost has been a shock! I know that once this has all been done it will be a tip top car. Don't see the point in doing things half-arsed. I think this cars going to be a keeper!

That's exactly how we look at ours mate. Want as much life out of it as possible so we give it anything it needs and show it plenty of mechanical sympathy.

It's been very good to us for two years. Hoping for many more ahead.

Hi Shane, I'm in a very similar boat with a UR R27 and bit by bit I'm slowly bringing it back to original condition with OEM parts. It never fails to amaze me how much 197 and 200 cost to maintain, with so many bits being bespoke to that model only. They're no parts bin specials with the bodyshell, engine, gearbox and front suspension being produced for the that specific model only. Surely not cost effective for Renault, but so glad they did.

I love them and they're so worth the effort.

Yeah the more I drive it the more I realise it's quite a special car. I've had normal clios in the past and it's like RenaultSport took a Clio, threw most of it away and rebuilt it. Such a well put together car. I don't mind putting a bit of money in the right places as I think it's a car for the future.

you do need deep pockets for a clio but as Mes stated above,it will be worth it in the long run..
anyway who does that?change a cambelt and leave a water pump??just pure stupidity!!
hope you can stop spending money on it and enjoy it very soon..
amen..show appreciation and the car will look after you too..

Decals are dealt with by @Nik - and are normally posted on-block and perhaps not individually. So there may be a small delay.

Hopefully he'll see this now i've alerted him and chip in

    Thanks @///M
