Matt's Glacier White Megane 265 - 4th time lucky!

Excellent result Matt and a really good write up. As above, great to hear some positive talk about Renault and their customer service, and very encouraging for anyone else who may have to go through this process in the future! Nice to know that they are willing to help out.

Yeah it was a really good experience Jimmy, I have heard people having bad dealings so it was refreshing for a company to be putting their customer first for a change as it's a rarity these days!

Its as sexy as your number plate, on a more serious note you need some nice black badges to finish it!

Haha I've always toyed with the idea of black badges as I think they looks really good but then once they're on where does it stop ? Before I know it the handles will be black, de-badged etc:grinning: I know the badges are easily removed but I love the idea of having the R27 as close to original as possible. (The exhaust and induction kit being an exception)

I might come to the dark side one day :jedi:

Just noticed it's been 18 months since I last updated this thread, and to say I browse the forum daily I thought I'd try start making a bit of an effort.

Nothing much has happened since the last post, the car has been my daily and unfortunately I never got around to doing much from my original list on Page 1.

I've kept up with yearly maintenance and have just been driving the car with very few problems,

However.....

I went over to RStuning last month for a remap as there was a group buy over on Facebook, whilst there Paul pointed out that there was a funny noise and it was definitely coming from the belt area which needed looking at and also the manifold was blowing (I've known this a while) - On my way home instead of having a smile on my face after the remap, I was left a little frustrated with the car.

During the following weeks I started to look at new cars and almost traded the car in as I had pretty much had enough. However after looking at a few cars, I just couldn't find anything that felt as special as the R27 that I could justify spending £££ per month on.

So after much consideration I've now decided to keep the car, get everything sorted and keep it for the foreseeable future. I probably won't ever sell it now to be honest, I'm hoping I can keep it even when it is time for something newer.

The car is booked in on the 25th March for the following:

- Timing belt, aux belt, water pump and dephaser (2nd change)
- Exhaust manifold replacement (spare OEM repaired)
- Front and rear discs (OEM Brembo)
- Front pads (Mintex M1144) & rear pads (Oem Brembo)
- Caliper strip and clean (including new Mr Pinks pins and Motul RBF600 brake fluid)
- Engine oil, filter and sump gasket change
- Gearbox oil change (Redline MTL)
- Powerflex gearbox and lower engine mount (already have upper torque)
- Full check over to see if anything else needs sorting at the same time

Few bits on order/left to do:

- Re-trimmed steering wheel from Royal Steering Wheels - Ordered
- New private licence plate - Ordered
- New RS Gear knob - Ordered
- New world champions rear window sticker - Ordered
- Alloy refurbishment in factory anthracite
- Small dent in passenger door
- Paint correction
- Clio 200 diffuser or paint standard one satin black and get new tips for the Akrapovic.
- Recaro bolsters repaired - few options but not sure what to do just yet

If you're still here/not bored by this point then well done and thanks for reading!

I will keep this thread updated as progress goes on with the car, I am hoping to get to a few meets this year if there is any and will hopefully finally meet a few of you.

Quick picture of the car from last week - Still looks bloody excellent for a 12 year old car IMO

Lovely write up.

Glad you’re sticking with the Clio. I think most long term owners have had the choice of selling up or digging deep!
They really are great cars when in tip top condition. Enjoy

Nice service plan, should be good summer with car.
Are you fixing brakes yourself, not really difficult job.. or do you pay for garage?¨

Btw. weather looks very nice , no snow left anymore there

Thanks Ben! That's exactly the dilemma I had, either sell/trade in for next to nothing with it's faults or dig deep and get everything sorted.

Glad I chose the route I have and I'm looking forward to getting the car back when everything is done.

Thanks Antti, I'm definitely looking forward to the summer!

I could have done the brakes myself, but while the car is in the garage I am just going to get them to do them at the same time then everything is sorted.

We had a nice bit of sun a couple of weeks ago, it didn't last long though and now it's raining again - No snow luckily :grinning: I have just looked at the weather and see it is still very cold where you are

Small update today:

Documents for my new licence plate arrived, already purchased the pressed plates last week so popped out this morning and got them on.

Really like them and glad I finally bit the bullet and bought this one.

Looking at these photos, if i don’t get a 200 diffuser I think this will definitely be going satin black.

Friday Update:

I dropped the car off at DDC in Doncaster on Monday for the following work:
  • Timing belt, aux belt, water pump and dephaser - 2nd change
  • Exhaust manifold replacement - spare OEM repaired
  • Front HC Brembo and rear discs OEM Brembo
  • Front pads Mintex M1144 & rear pads Brembo
  • Caliper strip and clean including new Mr Pinks pins and Motul RBF600 brake fluid
  • Engine oil, filter and sump gasket change
  • Gearbox oil change - Redline MTL
  • Powerflex gearbox and lower engine mount (already have upper torque)
  • Full check over to see if anything else needs sorting at the same time
  • New steering wheel fitted from Royal Steering Wheels and New RS gear knob

The work took a little bit longer than expected, but this was through no fault of the guys at DDC. It was just the oils and fluids I had requested didn't arrive on time. This wasn't a big problem and the car was all ready to collect on Thursday lunch time.

When I arrived the guy who had worked on my car (didn't catch his name) went through everything he had done, including showing me all of the old parts that had come off.

  • He showed me the aux belt which had come off and it was in a pretty bad way, considering I had it changed 4 years ago it looked like it had never been done - however this was with a local garage and not a specialist so this might have caused the issue (or have not been changed at all, which is quite worrying)
  • The exhaust manifold was also in a pretty bad way, both of the flexis were knackered and it was cracked at the top.
  • Had to have a new rear caliper as mine had seized - I did already suspect this might be the issue but all sorted and a new one was ordered and fitted.
First reaction:

WOW, I'm not sure if it's just a placebo effect but the car feels totally different and like a new car.

The cabin noise has reduced significantly, but at the same time the exhaust tone from the rear of the car sounds even better - I imagine this being because of the new manifold and everything being able to flow better.

The car seems to rev so much more freely now and even this morning the cold start seems to be significantly improved, little to none kangarooing etc.

The gear change feels so much nicer now with the Redline MTL in, I'll be honest and say it's never been changed in my ownership but I'll definitely be adding this to the yearly service now!

The steering wheel and new gear knob has make a big difference to the cabin and everything feels a lot more fresher now.

Few bits left to do but all in all i'm so glad I decided to go down this route of getting the car all sorted and keeping it. I'm really looking forward to the Summer now and getting the car on some proper drives.

Awesome update. Doubt it’s placebo!

I hope not Ben! Still feels just as good today, can't wait to get out and drive the car.

Awesome update. Chuffed for you !

Ain’t Redline MTL the bollocks in these boxes....

Thanks very much Shuv! It's been an expensive few weeks but over the moon now.

It certainly is, specified Redline to be put in from your recommendation and definitely glad I went with it.

Cool !

Some of the (track boys ?) slate it. I thought it revolutionised the feel of these boxes......and I’ve tried a few !

Enjoy hugely :sunglasses:

I keep debating whether to chuck some in mine or not (crunchy box). Ideally needs repairing but can't for a little while so need to put it off as long as I can

looks like a very expensive list....glad it feels good...:thumb:

Thanks Pav! I was pleasantly surprised at the cost and had been collecting parts for a while like the brakes etc so it wasn't as expensive as it could have been.

I can only see it helping and for something what is relatively cheap to do I think it'd be worth a go - especially if it will be a while before you get the box done.

Nice one mate. Add a Renaultsport front splitter to your list.

You know what, I'd never been sold on the splitter and side skirts but recently I've developed a massive liking for them and I think they will definitely be added to the (never ending) list

Not so keen on the side skirts as I think for them to look good you need 18s, spacers and sitting a touch lower. The front splitter IMO transforms the car and to me makes the 197 better looking than the 200. Also the splitter will compliment your Cup spoiler mate.

First post in a long time but thought it would be good to put an update up.

The R27 has been fantastic after all the work was carried out, really enjoyed the car over the Summer! It has been faultless (apart from a stuck locking wheel nut) and has continued to put a smile on my face as always.

Unexpectedly last week I found myself off to look at a new car, unplanned and all was a bit hectic but all was good and the purchase was made....

So welcome to the garage my Megane 275 Nav: (pictures from the advert as the weather here has been terrible)

s-l1600.jpg

s-l1600 (1).jpg

s-l1600 (2).jpg

Spec is as follows:

Megane 275 Nav
Flame Red
Cup Pack
Leather Recaro's
Akrapovic
Rs Monitor
Panoramic Glass Roof
19" Steev Alloys
Reverse Camera
Dual Zone Climate

Absolutely blown away by the car, it's everything I'd hoped it to be and more. It suits my lifestyle perfectly, it's a brilliant step up and lovely place to be for my commute to work and at the same time a fantastic B road machine that is extremely capable!

The R27 is still here at the moment, after Christmas I will have it checked over, get it serviced, fresh MOT, do some general tidying and it will more than likely be up for sale. I kept it so that I could make sure I'd made the right choice with the 275, but I can already tell that I have and obviously running 2 cars comes at a cost. So after nearly 6 years of ownership we will unfortunately be parting ways.

Going to stick around here with the 275 as this forum is definitely one of the good ones! No massive plans for it at the moment (apart from looking out for some 18" Tibors), looking forward to the Summer and hopefully some good drives out.
