ITBs on my 197

Welcome to my thread.

Recently had some major engine work done over the winter months, thought i'd give the club a sneak preview before next years show season

It all started a few months back when i dual decatted my exhaust system/manifold the recieved a tremendous flatspot which was very difficult to drive around. A simple case of another remap i thought? Well i took it to AmD Essex and they tried to map it out but failed. So i then got in touch with TDF, someone more specialised to these vehicles. After speaking to Matt it became apparent that with my engine setup i was pushing on the limits of the ECU and it was questionable just how much it would be able to control the engine efficiently anymore.

This started of talk about a standalone ECU, and then naturally we soon got talking about an ITB kit similar to their race car 225 kits. The rest, as they say, is history...

5 weeks later the car was ready. I added a few extras. The setup as it stands is:

AT Power ITBs.
EC1 Standalone ECU.
Race Technology Pro Race 2 Dash.
19 Row oil cooler with sensor take off.
ARP con rod bolts, raising limiter to 7800rpm.
Carbon Fibre filter backing plate.
Nitrous converted to direct port, one injector per trumpet.
Mapped to suit.

Dyno'd pre work at 196bhp, increased to 215bhp with ITBS with a 20+ lb/ft torque increase across the entire rev range. Pulls much harder mid range most noticable along with neck snapping throttle response. Dash shift lights like an F1 car, very helpful and fun :tongueout:

As far as im aware this is the 1st ROAD car to adopt the traditional ITB setup in the Uk and only the 2nd to run ITBS, following GDIs 'up and over' design.

EC1 ecu fits into OEM cover:

Space is restricted at slam panel lol:

Matt also noticed the exhaust cam is slightly out of timing costing me around 5bhp more, this will be rectified in the new year with Race spec cams and VVT delete pulleys, hopefully getting around the 225-230bhp mark

Thanks for looking, comments and questions welcome.

V. nice, I take it that means your on a cable throttle now?
I bet it sounds mmmmmmmmmm nice =D

Whats it take it to on NOS now then? 280?

Very good ben bet your pleased with it!! Cars coming along tremendously isn't it,some really good gains also

Yes we adapted a 182 pedal with a cable, much better than the fly by crap.

The trumpets arent the longest in the world due to the space restriction, so yes it sounds nice  Videos soon!

Love stuff like this, really puts the 197 on the map. Move importantly everything works. Easily best engine work to date. Hats off to you......

sweet, what do u think it will be with nos? also what would your max torque be?
that pro dash looks the nuts tho,

The nitrous jets are set for +50bhp which equate to approximately +60 lb/ft. So i could estimate 265bhp and 250 lb/ft, not bad for an N/A 2 litre. You got to keep in mind though that i can have the nitrous flow at any rate at any given rpm. so say the car runs 100bhp at 3000rpm i can up that to 150bhp at 3000rpm. Obviously only downside being its a temp gain, 8 minutes per bottle.

Quick shots of the dyno chart, super smooth power delivery  I'll scan the whole graph at work so its abit clearer. Red is pre work and Black with ITBs. Take particular notice of the old flatspot lol.

so u only have the 50bhp gain with nos for 8 mins only?(total)
very impressive fella indeed, what u done with the old dials? took the out or you still using them for anything?

I'd hardly say 'only 50bhp' gain lol. Its certaintly enough to give you a kick up the backside when it kicks in! and unlike other N/A engines it doesnt require to be revved up for power as the power delivery is 100% avaliable from anywhere.

Yes the duration is a pain in the arse, but in reality im refilling bottles twice a year because i only use it on the drag strip and even less on the road. It has once or twice made the difference between victory and loss before. A race with an Astra VXR and an R26.R are most memorable.

My misses has a similar nos setup on her otherwise std 182 and that does a quatre mile in a very respectable 14.43. Certainly enough to shun off a turbo or two

Jonesy the old dials are completely removed. The race dash does everything. Speed, Tacho, shift lights, oil pressure, oil temp, gear indicator, mile recorder, trip computer, fuel %, battery voltage and throttle %.

Im surprised no-one has mentioned this yet, but i might as well be the first. What ££££ are we talking roughly for the above performance?

Ben you are a Clio god, those ITB's are the mutts nuts.

Well done for doing it and for being the first, to say I am slightly envious is an understatement and to think only a few months ago you nearly sold it.... Du wanna sell it now??

And definately makes a difference in the "who's quickest" thread... Lol

***edit*** that impressed iv rated the thread with 5 stars, people really should use this feature more often.
