Dave's Black R27 #334 - H&R springs fitted!

Hi All!

Been a member on here for a while now, but never really posted much! Had the Clio for just over a year now so thought I'd make the effort with her!

The 197 was a replacement for my 306 HDi, that wasn't the most practical car ever...

It started like this:

Then went to this:

Then this:

And ended up like this:

D7FEEA12-21BB-4A51-839B-D39E3218F9A2-16007-000009F6727BA6D3_zpse10d1a1a.jpg

It didn't like speedbumps or kerbs or potholes...or the raised manhole cover that ripped the fuel line off...

Anyway, onto the Clio...

Here are a few pictures from the dealers:

And then when I got her home:

She was completely standard, apart from a lack of aerial and black diamond covers! AllI added were a set of team Heko wind deflectors. A bulb went shortly after I got her, so I set about changing this and found this masterpiece of engineering hidden under what I can only describe as a s**tload of black tape:

It then went into the garage to have this sorted, as well as cambelt (this was apparently done by the dealer...the original belt and waterpump suggested not...) and (without checking paperwork) some suspension work that cost a bloody fortune!

This caused me to fall out of love with the car for...well quite a while! I debated getting rid (always wanted an ep3 civic type r) and I even test drove a new fiesta ST (nice car but too comfy and "nice", the opposite of the clio). In the following months a rear bearing went and I replaced the rear disks with MTEC disks and I bought a short aerial which was and still is absolutely awful. The only thing it has done is change colour...from black to silver, it's never got a radio station yet!

But fast forward a few months and she recently passed her MOT and only needed a ball joint (on the other side to the original work). After this she drove much nicer and I decided it didn't make any sense to get rid now I knew she was right! I started to like the car again and debated spending some money on her.

First came a set of mats from eBay:

I also stuck some forum stickers on it at some point:

I've ordered a Scorpion Non-Res Catback system from Cazan racing, so hopefully that'll arrive this week and I can get it fitted.

Here are some photos from today:

The light is cloudy on the inside due to the dodgy wiring, so I think a replacement will be required, but I am debating whether projectors may be a better idea!

This is the only bit that really bothers me on the outside, she will be getting a full detail/paint restore in summer so I'm hoping this might sort it as I don't think it's very deep.

My plans are:
-Fit Scorpion cat back exhaust.
-replace 2 missing center caps.
-refurb wheels - colour unsure but will happen in summer!
-have rear splitter painted (either black or anthracite), with bullets, diamond badges and grills to match.
-H&R lowering springs
-19/20mm spacers
-possibly cup spoiler.

Any suggestions or thoughts welcome, sorry for droning on!

good progress...like what ur car has become..some nice personal touches...would think twice or do some research before u go for the H&R's springs..
u will love ur new exhaust

Thanks for the comments guys!

Good progress mate!

Defo get some mods on there and you will fall back in love!

I had the same problem with the lights and last week had the front bumper off and a hairdryer in there, they are perfect again! (heres a pic)

Your plans are pretty much identical to mine, aside from the fact I'm a little further down the path than you :tongueout:

Cheers mate! Was yours condensation? Think mine is smoke damage!

cheers Pav, what makes you say that about the springs?

they give u a nice drop but with that u sacrifice the ride and ur comfort alongside with handling..the damping will be affected as they are a 30/40 mm drop..plus u will scrape ur chassis on every speed bump...its a personal preference of course but there are lots of members who got rid of h&r's after a short period of time...

Yeah condensation, pity if it is damaged, then it is a case of new lights :worried:

I think so... Could be an excuse for projectors though!

Interesting mate, got me questioning them now! Just looked at your project thread, cracking looking car you've got!! You happy with the Eibachs? Visually, do you notice the drop?

thanks Dave..glad u like mine..well im not an engineer but it makes sense...drop the stance and the stock dampers will have to work overtime to deal with it..look it up on here or google it..been trying to look up the thread where it was well explained..the Eibach's are a great compromise drop, stance and handling wise...its not awesome i have to admit but if u want awesome u might consider some collies..get in touch with @Luke_197..he has recently told me that he would be swapping his H&R's for collies...
i believe u would learn to live with them..as above-personal preference..
hope u choose wisely

im happy as much as i can be atm...Eibach's give u a nice drop 20/25 mm...which doesnt affect the damping as much..i dont carry any passengers but if u went for H&R's u'd be finding it very difficult i guess..
if i could afford them i'd go for kw's 1 at least...there some more mods i've got in my mind atm before i go for collies...
hope it helps

Thanks Pav. After my previous car, the last thing I want is an issue carrying passengers or going over speedbumps! I think the Eibachs may be the ones I go for! Ideally I would get coilovers, but i just can't justify the cost!

Had a delivery today

It's getting fitted early next week...can't bloody wait!

Thanks to Angel at Cazan racing for sorting it and chasing up with Scorpion after they delayed sending it out, will definitely be using Cazan again!

Hi mate car is nice and some good mods you have.glad you are deciding to keep her. I have had some serious . ££££s spent on my car since getting it 3 years ago although alot was covered by auto care. They are great little cars and pond for pound the cheapest cars to have put a smile on your face. I seen a guy that put projectors on his car they were £140 for the 2 lights (il try and find the link for you) was on ebay. Il need to get the finger out and do a project/progress thread. One thing i would do is keep on top of the brake sticking situation as i had some serious issues getting the pins out the caliper just before xmas. Looking forward to seeing the other mods you do. I am seriously considering a scorpion cat back as i had one on my 172 and loved the sound of it.

After a bit more driving...I still love it!

Feels like it picks up a little better now too, although I could be imagining that!

In need of tyres, so ordered 4 nankangs from Fernandez, great service again!! Couldn't recommend Cazan racing enough!

Quick update, these arrived yesterday from Fernandez :

Got them fitted today, first impressions are pretty good, although probably the worst weather to try out a set of tyres
