197: Clio...a little too hardcore for everyday????

my tax is due end of this month which as made me realise that I've had the car 6 months on the road.

God, I love this little car. Better IMO than any other small hatch and the LY F1 gets looks from all kinds of drivers. Its a grown-up man's hot hatch....a toy or new puppy but there lies the problem. Toys are for playing with and then putting back in their box and puppys grow up into lazy dogs.
Its a car that when you fancy a sprited drive...you go and play. Whats now starting to drain me is I don't always feel like 'playing' but the clio does. The older I get the more uncomfortable the clio feels. I occasionally drive the wifes family BMW and it feels like having a day off.
I still love the car but it may be the time to revert to why I bought it 'a toy' and not a daily driver.

Also if you not careful, you can end up spending money on the clio to keep your interest. Now its a toy and a expensive hobby. Ten grand later, you end up with a car you can't sell cause no one wants to buy modded cars, parts you paid a fortune for that you sell for a fraction of the price and the complete ballache of putting it back to standard.

The problem is this is not the climate either to have a car parked up and insured for when you fancy driving it....

Wifes says I might have some growing up to do and she might on this rare occasion be right!!!!!

Audi S3 sportsback?

you only live once
you only young once too
plenty time to get OAP car later:lol:

I never mind driving mine on my own, sometimes the firm ride can be embarrassing when you have passengers though. It is a touch noisy on the motorway but again, fine if you are on your own. If I had to drive to S. Wales or Scotland tomorrow I wouldn't be the least bit concerned about going in the Clio, sure something like a 330d would be a more comfortable car, but the Clio is far from bad. Spend a couple of days in an older car and you will be quite happy with a 197! Compare it to say an Escort RS Turbo, Astra GTE, etc. and it is MUCH easier to live with!

Having said that, I really don't care what I drive though, so long as I own something a bit special.

I understand what you mean, i was thinking the same and thinking about similar things and thought about getting like a Leon FR or something similar. But my problem is... I just can't get shot of the clio..

When i fancy a day off i take my sisters 1.2 mk3 clio or my dads Mazda 6 Sport 2.2 out a drive so i get the power and comfort. But ALWAYS glad to get back into the clio!

Rarely I think the same, "geez this feels rough today" but 95% of the time by the end of my drive im smiling again  Keep with her

If ure anything like me u will have realised keep the clio for fun but have a runnabout for the week its the only way. Especially with a modded car.

Just drive something else for a few days, then jump back in the Clio. Feels like heaven! Lol! Although I don't have the cup pack.

I love mine as a daily driver. But then im prob the worse person to comment on this thread lol  I am gonna buy a vtr as a run around later this year but not because i find it uncomfortable.

Same as what most have put....

I have a runabout for getting to work, and the 197 for weekends!

Works a treat, and need not be expensive too!

When you do get to drive the clio, you'll appreciate it more

I dont think its too hardcore tbh. Even with the exhaust on its no different.

Emma drives it everyday and shes 7 months pregnant and loves it still.

I love mine so much I'm finding it hard to go to the effort of selling it! If I go a few days without using it I'm well up for saying goodbye, the second I get back begin the wheel the smile factor draws me back!

Drive more....Think less!

Superb response! Thats what I do too.

I dont think the Clio is too hardcore it is more like other cars are too soft IMO. I have driven a lot of others and a good percentage feel like they aren't connected to the road. I just love the way it feels to drive and it isn't something I have had from other cars.

Not sure I'd class a car as modern as the Clio as hardcore, though mine isn't a Cup which I'm guessing is more so. I use my Clio daily, sometimes think I could do with a more economical car, but that can wait until my mileage increases.

Not sure I'd keep the Clio as a weekend car, think I'd want a V8 for that when the time comes

So for that reason the Clio makes a good compromise.

For me the Clio is a fine everyday car. We always try take the family in it instead of the Scenic unless we're taking loads of gear with us.

A weekend toy for me would be a stripped out track car or exige (type car)

Man Up!!
