Another Problem

So after finding out the previous owner did a dodgy decat job himself and finally finding a new manifold/cat combo and finally booking it into the garage to get it done today they have just rang me and basically said 'it's too much hassle for us to swap your manifold' bearing in mind they booked me in for 8:30 this morning and I'm on nights so after about 4 hours sleep i got up and took it there only for them to start looking at doing it at 12 o'clock.

they basically didn't realise you had to drop the steering rack and he said he wouldn't even bother trying to attempt this so

I'm Midlands based and need somewhere that would be able to swap a manifold/cat combo in for me I've contacted Midlands Renaultsport because I'm planning on getting my belts done there but whats the going rate for having this done and is it really as bad a job as they've said?

I would recommend Mark at Midlands too - I had work done with him when he was at Bolsover Car Care and he was spot on. The manifold job is very labour intensive so you're much better off with an RS specialist as they will know what they're getting into.

Well out of order though that the other garage fobbed you off like that!

That's a proper shoddy service that, what sort of garage agrees to a job without first researching what's involved?! Sounds like a bunch of cowboys to me. I'd be pushing them for compensation for wasting your time!

It is quite an involving job, it's not like on most cars where you can simply undo the bolts and wriggle the manifold free, other things have to come off to get the room. I've heard of the rack and the sub-frame needing moving/jigging out of the way to get it out. So it's quite labour intensive.

got onto a renault specialist in old bury http://www.therenaultspecialists.co.uk don't know if anyone on here has ever used them would be good to know of any previous experience with these guys cause there quite local gave them a ring was halfway through explaining the situation and the guy said was it because he found he had to move the steering rack so sounds like he's done one before gonna pop to these for the manifold i think but probably still go midlands renault specialist for the belts!
