To be honest with you, it's such a simple job that you might as well put the 75 stat back in when things heat up. It only takes 15 mins tops.

15 mins to change thermostat????? did mine this morning and it took an hour

Well heater is now working great - hot air at last gauge is reading dead centre but i have had to top up the coolant slightly this week - is this just because the system is bleeding itself? anyone else had this? can't see any leaks

if done right (ie system bleed) then it shouldnt really need topping up - there are 2 bleed points - so sounds like its not been bled fully of air...
mines started doing this now but also goes way, way too hot in traffic!
going in next week under warranty which is lucky with it being 3 on the 1st of march.

Hmm - never bled it after changing the stat - didn't realise i had to?

There is a bleed point of the side of the stat housing (10mm bolt) which is the same as the mk2 system. The other is on a pipe at the back of the engine bay towards the bulkhead. It's a plastic screw cap. Just make sure coolant is coming out of them before nipping them back up and running the car up to temperature.

So do i switch engine on, open bleed screw (1 at a time?), wait till coolant comes out, screw in bleed screw and that's it?
If i run engine up to temp, switch off and open rad cap will that not work?

I just took little test drive with bluetooth obd2 adapter & andrdoid torque software.
Outside tempeature -3celsius and it was easy city driving. Coolant temp was between +70 +80celsius which i think is correct if car really fitted 75celsius opening tempeature for oem thermostat?

I did the same test and the temperature was the same. Oscilating between 70 and 80 °C. Only while stationary the temperature rose above 80 °C.

We do have cold winters here, some weeks even -35c.
I just thinking if 182 thermostat would be better (more hot air to cabin)..
What do you think about it?
Mine is nice and toasty after 5 mins now i've got the 183 stat in
Rouge - mine needed topping up as i didn't know i had to bleed it, i thought loosening the cap when temp was up would vent the air out - level has now stabilised at the max mark but i still haven't bled it using the bleed screw?
