Whiring noise on start up ...

Not had the 197 long so not uses to the noises etc on start up when it's cold for about a min after starting up there is a relitivly loud whiring noise almost like a fuel pump but louder I can't track down the sound either anyone else had anything like this ???

Sounds like a supercharger lol? Yeah its normal.

I'd take a guess its the alternator bearing warming up as it comes from that area.

might be the air con mate if its left on when you start it up you hear the fans whirl

mine sounds the same

the noise could have something to do with getting the cats up to temperature quickly - it will probably run with the ignition retarded to heat the cats up - sooner its hotter the quicker the cats get converting the exhaust gases
