Tyre Options as tested on 197 in 08 Test

I know i know its going to end up with "they didn't do this, they didn't do that" etc etc. Take it for what it is... a tyre test on the day! Summarised results below, car used was a Renaultsport Clio 197, Michelin and Kuhmo didn't participate as they didn't make a tyre in the Clio's size and Yokohama declined to participate... wtf? This year they tested 8 road tyres and 4 semi-slick road legal tyres. I'll list all contenders for first test but cos i'm lazy i'm only putting the top three in each test.

Overall road tyre winner Bridgestone Potenza Adrenalin RE001, closely followed by the Maxxis Victra i-pro (which are also $324 cheaper for a set!). Overall semislick winner was Dunlop by some margin.

Pretty good value out of the Bridgys as well, if you remove the dead last by some way Federals the Bridgys are third cheapest at $296/tyre... and you should be able to find em cheaper than that as well.

Iv only had Toyo T1R's since the original conti's went but what does everyone els use now?

That's good to know, usefull info. It's a pitty they didn't use my tyres, but now I know that there are more sheaper alternatives for Conti's.

RE001 don't think available in Uk, mate with Teg had to import from Japan.
I run the Rs2's like some of our foreign members, awesome tyres.

no probs fellas, think im going to stick with another set of T1R's next just personal preference, had the yoki pradas and there rubbish in the winter damp.

interesting info, thanks Dave, but one question I have is I'd be interested to know how long the tyres are likely to last, if they are soft/hard compound?
I've got Conti 3's and they work for me.

yer the contis are good but i only get about 6 k miles outta a set 7k if i keep switching f to r but the t1r's im getting 8-9k depending on track days and i dont think the handlin is affected either, and there only 270 quid from camskill! touch!

i've decided to stick with the continentals after contemplating the dunlops. they've been good for me and i managed to get 31k out of the rears with a track day in that. they where boderline slicks though.
and to add that i didn't trust the dunlop SP's i had on my mini they where inconsistent in the wet when part worn, i've piroetted on too many roundabouts to put my faith back in them irrespective of the data supplied above.
