Trouble With Engine Light – Fault Codes DF554 and DF092

Hi all,
Looking for some advice. My engine light came on recently, so I took the car to a local garage. They initially didn’t want to take it on because they said it looked like an electrical issue, and they mostly handle basic mechanical work. Being in a rural area, I don’t have many garage options, so I went with the one they recommended.

They diagnosed the problem and replaced the main lambda sensor, showing me the old one and saying the wiring was in bad shape. Unfortunately, the engine light came back on not long after. They’ve said they’d need more time to investigate, but after spending several hundred pounds and over five hours with them already, I’m reluctant to keep going down that road.

Before I start hunting for a better garage further afield, I was hoping someone here might have experience with these fault codes (DF554 and DF092) or any insight into what might be going on. The car seems to run and drive perfectly fine, and on a 30‑mile dual carriageway run I can still get around 33 mpg at 70+ mph.

Any help or suggestions would be really appreciated.

Fault code DF092 relates to the upstream lambda sensor (the one before the cat). Try clearing the code and see if it reappears.
