Trackspec Clio 197

I'm new to this forum but thought i'd start a build blog. So this is quite a big intro as Im moving everything from another build blog to here instead! lol I've had Clios including a FF182 and later a 182 Trophy years back and after going back to Peugeot ownership I have finally got myself back into another Clio but this time a RB 197 which I bought from KTR.

My intentions are only to use it on track days and sprints so wanted to find a car with some upgrades already made to it. This one had KW 2-way Clubsports, Performance Friction 330mm brake upgrade with DS3000 pads, KTR exhaust system, sprint spoiler and CF rear diffusor so is a great foundation for what I need.

When I first picked it up.

The car was incredibly clean and ideal for what I wanted. I have had Peugeot 106 for years and competing in one. They benefit from being really lightweight, mine was around 720kg by the end, he's a clip from Pugfest this year in Prescott:

Since this is a track focused car for me my intentions were to start stripping some weight out of it and have so far done the following:
  • Recaros for circa 8kg bucket seats
  • Safety belts and buckles
  • Rear seats
  • Isofix bar
  • speakers
  • cd player
  • fog lights
  • Rear wiper
  • Steering wheel swap
I've also been quite busy with some track prep. Here are a load of photos from the work so far.

I have booked a trackday in Abingdon on the 14th of October and have the following to do before hand:
  • Strip out a little more weight
  • Fit rear tow strap
  • Fit new CL RC6 front brake pads
  • Adjust camber
I have a mapping session booked for the 10th of October to sort out the typical flat spot and am planning on fitting a decat and new SS manifold before hand. Hopefully the car should drive a lot better after that and in time for the track day.

My future plans are to fit a Gripper diff, steel lightened flywheel, a new comp clutch and a set of cams and itb's next year.

What a fabulous start to a thread.

That 106 is ridiculous (And 720kg - thats nuts). Really, really impressive.

The 197 has really got to go some (Literally) to keep with that build. But you look like you've dived in head-first and made an epic start.

Cant wait for more updates

Thanks mate! 106 was awesome but after too many engine troubles I broke it down and sold it all off. Selling the old Sadev sequential box almost paid for the entire car on its own! lol I wont be going quite to the point of the 106 as I want to try and keep this a little more usable but there are a few things I want to do to it for sure. I have been thinking about fitting a full cage but we'll see. I almost forgot I've also just purchased a set of CF R3 door mirrors for it to try and get the weight down further.
Car looks in very good condition!

Where have you booked in for the map? will be nice to get a before & after graph up if you are getting one done post the results up

I'm booked in with Four Ashes Renault as it's up the road from me. Floyd from K-tec is the main guy there so am expecting them to be pretty good. If I get any results I will be sure to post them up.

Haha thanks!

It was a project for around 5-6 years and by the end it was a no expense spared build with trick custom suspension, big brakes, stripped out, weld in cage etc etc. Where it was great was under the bonnet. The engine wasn't anything particularly special except for a race spec head with large valves, Newman cams, 8 injector setup and 45mm throttle bodies. It made 180bhp which was circa 250bhp per tonne which was pretty good. The most trick part was the gearbox which was a Sadev STC out of a C2R2 max and was the first conversion of its type done to a S1 Rallye as far as I'm aware although its a lot more common now. That box combined with a DTA S40 ECU was mapped for flat shift so from standstill it was rapid and never dropped off the boil. You can see in the footage how it eats up ground, unfortunately the motor couldnt produce enough revs for a decent top end. I was planning on a 230bhp @ 9krpm TU motor but after constant issues it had to go.

Welcome to the forum mate, your old 106 is (was) also mental and credit to you.

Car looks really good and the upgrades compliment the whole package nicely. I've got the same induction and front brakes and I love them.

In terms of future upgrades I really don't think you'd need an upgraded clutch and in terms of itbs I don't think it's as straight forward as the 182s I'm afraid.

But anyhow, keep the updates coming:smile:

Thanks mate. It's just I was think while the gearbox is out to fit the plate diff I might as well fit a decent clutch and steel flywheel at the same time. In all honesty I'm not really sure what ITB's are on offer for the 197. Any ideas if there are any kits?

Great video! Made it look easy...

Was you riding the limiter down the back straight or easing off?

Will be following your progress. Good luck

Thanks. Constantly having to ease off mate as it was hitting the limiter on the long back straight and straight alongside the pits.

Looks just like mine, you even have the same trailer.

Hope you have fun with it at the trackday, I would do a front tow strap too.

Yeah I'm going to fit the original towing eye to the front which I've just sprayed up.

I'm hoping the R3 carbon mirrors and decat arrive for the weekend now to keep the progress going!

got a question about the studs ... are the rear ones sticking further out than the fronts? about 50mm?
mine are and i have no clue why.

Glad my old car has gone to someone who's going to enjoy it! The car didn't get used as much as I would have liked, but was used at Snetterton a fair few times. Are you aware it has DS3000 front pads already on it?

Not that I've noticed mate, they seem around the same.

Great news that the old owner is on here! I'm really happy with it mate and its clear you looked after it. One of the reasons I bought it was because it had a lot of very good parts on it to start. I am aware of the pads, it will have proper hiding around Abingdon and then it will have a new set of CL with me. I'm a director of a specialist French car parts company and have access to a number of top brands including CL Brakes, KW suspension, Catcams and numerous others so this car will now form one of our own demo cars at some point shortly.

I understand from David at KTR that you now have a Megane?

Managed to strip a little more weight out of it over the weekend. I have removed the rear wiper and boot plastics along with the remaining front speakers. Also fitted a new sun strip with Renault Sport sticker which looks pretty good.

I had planned to fit my Miltek decat to my KTR system but it's too long. I've had a look at the KTR site and it says that the Miltek decat wont fit with any other system. I'm guessing if I cut the decat length down it should fit as it's the same bore size as far as I'm aware. Has anyone done this?

Also to decat the car properly I've ordered a 4-2-1 SS manifold.
