I agree with that, having done it twice before. Be sure to disconnect the battery first, as you might touch the starter heat shield during the process and short the always-live terminal on the solenoid, blowing the fuse and leaving the car unable to start. The subframe doesn’t need to be completely removed, just lowered as far as the front bolts allow and left hanging at the back. However, you’ll need to disconnect the steering rack inside the car, and make sure neither the rack nor the steering wheel moves while disconnected to avoid damaging the clock spring or throwing off the steering angle reading. It’s also a good idea to tackle other jobs at the same time, like replacing lower arms, inner track rod ends, fixing oil leaks, or working on the clutch and gearbox to make it worthwhile.
