TL4 gearbox....no not another broken one this time (gearbox stripped down)

I'm not sure this is of any use to you but here are some photos of what went wrong with mine:

Hi mate, I work for ford and strip the gearboxes in my work- I thought they were chocolate!! But these boxes make them seem bulletproof. I have already had the box on my 197 changed last April and have covered roughly about 10,000 miles and its fine. If it ever goes tho il be sorting it myself. Is this a spare box your keeping ?

yes its a spare box and i thought i would have look!

cleaned the casings and did a test rebuild - all is fine

just need some sealer now - not got enough left to finish the build :swear:

Problem wit hthat Box (and again with the new one  ) is simple: Most Tracks im driving im almost only using 2-3-4 Gear all the Time. They get a pretty good battering then. But in the End - They should stand that. My Old Cars had no Probs with that also...

agree on that - shouldnt break/wear like they do...

top work . What's the plans for the box, you keeping it as a spare?

yes might as well - cannot find anything wrong with it so will finish the build once i get some sealer and then give it a quick spray with some paint to stop any corrosion build up and tape/protect any other items from rust then bag it up until needed (hopefully not)....or sell it to someone if wanted

took a load of pictures of the variuos gear positions but there were a bit blurred so will do them again whilst its still open :thumbup1:

box back together and gave it a coat of silver paint and all wrapped up cosy now :coffee:

havent got anymore info on gearboxes internals yet - but off to a dealers next week hopefully so will see if i can get a look at a parts listing for a 200!

early boxes have 3-part synchros on 1st & 2nd gears only...

got the schematic of both an early 197 and a 200 6-speed tl4 box...

both sets on internal items are the same ie synchro hubs etc!

3-part synchros are only on 1st and 2nd gears for both boxes...

so if there have been any changes it must be to material specifications and possible build dimentions

i wonder if on a certain batch of gearboxes a different supplier was used for the synchro hubs/baulk rings
