Things I don't like

I had a summer job as a janitor at Uni a few years ago. Hated the late shift - 2.45-10pm, for the exact same reason.
Now I work 8am-4pm Mon-Thurs, and 8am-2.45pm on a Fri, instead of the standard 8.45am-5pm. I get to leave early on Friday as we're allowed an hour for lunch but I only take 30mins so I get to take the time back on the Friday (in reality I take about 2 hours as I just sit and watch Sky Sports on my second monitor). Shift work is pish!

Takes the piss! 2-10 monday-thursday and 12:45-7:30 friday. Although I'm starting college soon through my work which is on fridays so no more friday lates - WIN!

3 year course, mechanical engineering, milling turning and welding are first year modules, CAD CAM etc into the second two years. Production support as an NVQ alongside!

FANTASTIC !!! Sounds comprehensive. Will stand you in excellent stead. You'll love that....

Really wish I got into MechEng. Was looking at it then decided to go into construction as where I worked was £25k+ for an apprentice. Then I broke my leg. That's what I don't like. Long term injuries.

Porn

It totally miss sells 70% of most sexual encounters. I wasted my younger years training to become and gas engineer and an electrician. When i happen to try and reenact my favourite scenes i get a sore face borderline broken nose and find myself kipping on the couch wtf is that about?

Post of the decade !!

Witnessing motorcycle accidents. Especially like the one i saw this afternoon. (Rider looked ok before i go on.....)

I saw 85% of the accident and it looked to me like a lady pulled out of a junction without enough care and attention to oncoming traffic from her right; the biker - who i wouldn't think was speeding - hauled up as she was then on his side of the road, then hauled up harder still in order not to rear-end her. Eventually he snaked around a little with the rear wheel in the air and the front tyre eventually lost its battle with grip and on the floor he went. And at no point (unfortunately ?) did he make contact with the car.

I took some pics and gave him my details as a witness. And in the pics - you can see that on a 60mph road for the biker. The woman had managed to pull out of the side junction, accelerate, presumably then see him approaching her in her mirrors (And subsequently fall off) , slow down her car and stop in like a total of 30-40 yards from the junction she'd just pulled out of :rage:So doing anywhere like 50-60 mph the biker had no chance.

His Fireblade didn't look very well. I didn't even see the woman driver offer to help him, ask if he was ok or anything else. She got right out; saw him on the ground (Dazed and shocked mainly i think as he actually fell-off at about 15-20 mph after battling the crash for a few seconds) and got straight on her phone.

The likelyhood here being - there's no proof of speed and effectively the biker fell off on his own accord without as-such being involved in an accident with anything else. What really needs to happen is she's at the very least given a warning or some points for driving carelessly / without due care and attention.

No doubt the Police / the rider will contact me. So will be interesting to see if anyone is or feels its worth following up....

Properly fuck me off does that, had something similar years back with a white van driver who pulled out between traffic without even looking! I had to slam on, women coming the other way had to slam on, I ended up sandwiched between the side of his van and the curb and only just managed to avoid being taken out!

Sadly that's how you have to ride these days like every other driver out there is trying to kill you... :chris2:

Mental day today.

Up early, college for induction, then a full shift at work!

So things I don't like is long days without any time for myself!

Only has to be done once bud

Career progression / earning a living eats into free time.

64 hours o/t for me last month. And I'm doing an evening course 3 nights a week too.

I thought life would get 'easier' as you got older / more secure etc.

Not !

Long weeks...67 hours so far since Sunday, another 15 hour day tomorrow, and a 9/10 hour shift Friday. [emoji90]

I want to do a few business/finance related evening courses but I can't count on having the time off..there's another thing I don't like, poorly organised shift planning!!!

Jeees! A lot of overtime that. I did 53 hours in June and that was enough, to be fair though that was 7 days a week, wouldn't be so bad if it was weekday and could have the weekend to myself...

Gota get all the money to go swanning off to NYC

Just seems in my game - the more promotions you get, the better pay you get - but the more time you have to put in, the more problems come your way and the more shit your experience is expected to deal with. While I have no issues doing my job - the expectancy, assumptions, pressures and pure time involved could easily get ontop of you. Not to mention the pure dangerous aspect of every single hour of every working day for me; and never being able to relax. And not forgetting the time spent outside of work thinking about work. Implementation of the next job, daily meetings, monthly meetings etc don't happen themselves as you walk in the door in the mornings.....

So (For me): Not the - oh I'm getting X amount more over a flat week and will really be able to afford to enjoy my free time now that I've worked my way up.

Vicious circle and I'm not sure of the answers. Not sure about you.....but no-one gives it to you though ! So yes - life does eat up your time, and in some fields the higher up the ladder you progress the better the money - but relatively the more wholly consuming the role becomes.

But i diverge. You excited by this all Chris ? I know it's something you've talked of for a while and seemed really enthusiastic about when we last talked ?

**Hope I've not crushed you before you've even started !

GOOD LUCK - embrace and enjoy.

Omg. You're welcome to that !!

Thats heavy going. Crack the hours in while you're young though hey. Make a foundation to build on and do it now to make the future brighter.

Good for you I say

Hit the nail on the head right there.
Currently doing my HGV licence so I can do more hours at a higher rate of pay, but that comes with more risk/pressure.
I was cornered in a position by my now previous employer where my health was at risk, I couldn't get time off for doctors/dentist and was basically told if I didn't do overtime then I know where the door is. I Had constant toothache as I needed a wisdom tooth out, had back and knee pain and that was the last straw for me, so I just left. Now I've had the offending troublemaker removed, I'm all rested up and got all my HGV stuff lined up ready to make a career change that will guarantee me work wherever I am.
Once I've got some experience under my belt I'm going to try and do a tour over europe, can't beat a paid holiday! Onwards and upwards....

When you say foundation...do you mean tidy Clio..?[emoji23] Haha.

I'm bloody knackered this morning but it's all worth it, to be honest I'm trying to get as much done on the Clio before Christmas as possible so I can try to cut down on spending next year, would be nice to start saving for my own place! You need stupid amounts for a deposit on a house round here...there's another thing I don't like, attitude towards young people who don't have children when it comes to property!

Looking at a £20k+ deposit for a half decent non bank breaking mortgage at the moment...
