Tail light Issue

Just wondering if anyone has stumbled across this before.

My left hand rear tail light stopped working on Tuesday but the brake light still works. The element was okay but yesterday I went and picked up some new bulbs.
Just replaced the bulb on my lunch break and it still doesn't work.. Brake light is fine but the tail light doesn't work.
It's going in next door to be looked at tomorrow as he thinks it could either be the light unit itself or the wiring loom which seemed a bit overkill.

Anyone else experienced this and if so, what was the cause?
