Swapping ECU to bypass immobiliser?

A member messaged me pointing towards this thread:

His brothers car was broken into 2 minutes from me, they also ripped the bonnet up and tried stealing the ECU.

After a little speculation on RSUK and a google search it seems some cars immobilisers can be bypassed by swapping the ECU.

Does anyone know if this is the case with the 200?

In theory I see no reason why this wouldn't work! As a cars keys are chipped to respond to it's paired ecu. Interesting question mate!

Edit: that is of course assuming they can get past the good old ignition barrel as only your key will be cut to match and thus turn it.

cant see it working on ours - the immobiliser system works through other components like the dash and body ecu before it will allow the engine to start :foxspeed:

What car was in the link? I can't open it...

On clios:
Ph1 172 you can fit an emulator to a virginised ecu, this removes immo function.
On ph2 172 & 182 & 197/200 it wouldn't work.
The ecu is coded to the transponder aerial and body control unit.
