Supercharged RS200 underway :D

Amazing project! Car really looks great, I love how you've completely gone to town on the carbon (rear shelf etc)!

Looking forward to your power figures

i have seen this in person twice, at trax and renault world series.

i got some funny looks when i practically had my head on the car admiring the carbon!

Not to be negative but the standard cast pistons in these engines are just too weak. I've melted holes in them on two seperate occasions now only running very low boost.

Do you have a turbo/supercharger on your 197 Sean? And forged pistons are available if you've got the £££

Mine's been supercharged in some form for 16 months+. I'm not going for mega power, the latest incarnation made 250hp but only for 5 weeks. Forged is the only way to go, i've tried everything else.

any form of forced induction requires forged rods and pistons. y do you think i went to the extent of rebuilding the engine to supercharge . . . I knew the cast cons and pistons would fail.

ppl who think they will be able to "bolt on" a supercharger are sadly mistaken. ive not devoted 18 months of my life to research into parts for some1 to make a kit that will run on standard internals . . . . . . for longer than a few months. seriously it will either. . . throw a rod when the con bolts let go, burn a hole in the valves, melt ure pistons in other words ruin ure engine.

its like treading on eggshells trust me and ask sean as we have spoke in great depth

oh and tbf I dont know half as much as i should about bic's car. like: is it running forged internals? boost pressure? ECU arrangements? blah blah blah.

Bolt on kits are fine in turbo and supercharger applications as long as they are running low boost. And I mean low.

If you are going for a good gain ie more than 30hp increase and running more than 0.5 bar of boost gauge pressure you need forged pistons and connecting rods or else you will have no end of trouble.

Infact even when fitting lumpy can shafts to an engine I would even recommend fitting forged pistons.

I am looking forward to seeing the full spec of bics car on completion.

Woody; we know you have spent alot on your car but you dont need to go on the defensive about discussions like this one. It's each to their own remember and we are here to help each other.

nah im not going defensive.

its tried and tested. sean ran a half bar of boost and melted a hole in the piston.
