steering rack

Evening all.

What exactly goes wrong with the steering racks!!

Ive been reading loads about symptons etc but arnt acctuall sure wot goes wrong with them.

Any help

most common is the inner ball joints wear and you get a slight bit of play and knocking - new arms can be fitted about £40 for the parts

other faults are pinion/rack wear again clunking and play in the steering - usually a new rack...

been reports of steering colunm uj being faulty as well - usually stiff/lumpy in one position

The rack ends are an easy solve, ive allready done one lol, i was just curious as to what exactly inside the rack.

Is it an electric rack or is the motor on the colum ??

normal rack with an assistance motor on the colunm just under the dash area
