Old thread, but might be useful to someone. I bought one of the recommended 17 inch Espace spacesavers (from a Spanish breaker!). Wheel/tyre are like new (tyre dated week 46 2002!). However, it was quite heavy and the van tyre made the overall wheel/tyre diameter too large for my lowered/ 20mm spacered 197. Plus it would not lay on the boot floor flat (too tall).
After some research I found Mytyres sells a Nankang, Sportnex AS-3 in 165/45 R17. This is around 8% lower circumference that the standard 215/45 x 17s. The tyre is a few KGs lighter and the spacesaver now sits on the floor of the boot with no issues. I bought a jack/kit from ebay too, which came in a little bag so stows away nicely.
