Snow Chains/Socks

...not strictly for this forum....but I am going Skiing in February and taking the car to Morzine....does anyone know if I am required to take some snow chains/socks, and if so do just need them on the front wheels.....any recomendations for chains or socks?

yeah to get on some roads you will need to have snow chains in the car or on the car otherwise the police won't let you drive up. problem is the clio can't have standard chains fitted to it so you have to buy a snow spider which cost me 400 euros those things along with good snow tyres took me everywhere in the snow haha

Those look the business but don't want to spend 400 euros!! How come chains won't fit on a Clio? I have a Meg250 with 18" wheels.Am I going to have the same trouble? Been looking at snowsocks which just rap over the tyre.

something to do with them hitting the arch from the inside of the wheel i was told. you can fit them but a few retailers said that would be the problem on this car. Snow socks are good but not enough for Les Gets or Morzine

...seems there is a coding system for snow covered roads in Europe...'round Blue B26' sign for instance....I am driving to Morzine. My freinds who are going with us went last year but says he didn't have to fit his snow chains as he didn't drive once there. I intend to do the same...any way, is this sort of thing going to be suitable....

...there are more expensive Thule devices which look similar to the Snow Spider, but they are very expensive!

Do you have winter tyres? I have no idea if they will fit to be honest on the clio 200 i was told it was a problem, on the megane it may be different. For £24 you may as well give them a go

...don't have winter tyres...I am hoping to get away with that! Car is fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport 3...

Buy some chains from halfords and if they dont fit at least you can take them back! Try fitting them before you need them seems to be the biggest bit of advice people give so your not shivering away trying to figure out how they fit!
