Running 225 width on standard rim??

My car is running quite big power and torque and am considering upping the tyre width to 225, but not sure if its worth in terms of extra grip...

Also does anyone know if I will get any fitment issues? with like a 225/40 on the standard 17" rims??

-Cheers for any help.. Andy

Notsure about 225/40, might look a bit thin?

I've used 225/45 on 7.5J and 8J rims, would say they work better on 8J rims though. Technically you're adding in more free movement of the tyre when oversizing width so it can make the car feel less direct.

I'm not sure you'l get the grip just by going up a width on it's own, maybe some sand bags under the bonnet? :tongueout:

I run 225/45 & have no problems with them, wouldn't say you get any more or less grip just fills the arch a bit more... Unless your going on track & can compare lap times.
