RS200 - No power, strange intake sound. DTC0340

Good Morning,

I have a 2010 RS200, bit of a tidy up project after it was in storage for a couple years. Timing + dephaser done in October and car has driven well until recently.

Occasionally it will have zero power above about 4000rpm, and the intake noise is…. Peculiar. This can usually be fixed by turning the car off and on again. When it’s driving normally it is usually fine the entire time.

Forums pointed me towards camshaft sensor. Which I replaced, and instead of being broke sometimes, it was broken all of the time.

I then borrowed RS Tuner from a friend, and I’m getting DTC 0340 - Limits training, teeth missing, teeth.

Poked my inspection camera into the hole and it doesn’t look like anything is missing or damaged.

Is this likely a timing issue, or can this little frame that the sensor reads on the camshaft move?

Any suggestions to try would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like a timing issue to me, but equally could also be an issue with the dephaser or dephaser solenoid.
If you're at a loss, checking the timing would be cheapest to do, as you would only have to replace the cam caps on the right hand side of the head.

I had a similar(ish) issue with mine where it always felt like it was in limp mode. It was the camshaft sensor. The new one I had fitted was the wrong type and while it worked for mapping, it ultimately failed.

I even went as far as getting the intake camshaft changed by a friend and it was still an issue. I figured it wouldn't be the camshaft sensor as it was new from Renault but as far as I've read, there is 2 types. Make sure the new one has the same part number as the old one. I forget what codes mine was throwing but it sounds like a similar issue.

PM me to find out what car you have I know of a couple of cars about home here I have a bit of knowledge of both that appeared at the same time. I'm sure it can be sorted I see you changed the gearbox crankshaft sensor you might be getting confused with the cam sensor on the top of the engine. So send me a message and we will take it from there.
