197: RS Tuning and my clio RS197 full service and belts change cost :/

Hi everyone, well i have been in touch with RS Tuning in Leeds about getting my clio RS197 fully serviced as it has hit 60,000 mile and needs both belt kits doing at same time, well lets just say im shocked at price and I need to now at the hardest part of year find £680+VAT :thumb1::zomg:

Full service
Both belt kits
Water pump
Coolant flush and refill
Millers nanodrive oil and filter
Air filter
Cabin Filter
Spark Plugs
Caliper service and brake fluid change

Seriously contemplating selling clio for a smaller engine car even though ive had it only 5 months

Any tips or advice for me guys, im sure similar situations you have struggled with too with the renault misery

He runs 519 automotive. Done my cambelt water pump just before I hit 60k.

You could cut the cost back. There are things on your list that might not be needed. Spark plugs are at 36k intervals so shouldn't need to be done at 60k. The millers oil is probably twice the price of the standard elf oil.

caliper service - you can do if you have a jack and some tools.

did if you get a break down of the costs? Might be useful to see where you can reduce the costs

Presuming your car is out of warranty, go to eurocarparts and get the consumables from them. There are plenty of Renault specialists about who will do the job, I reckon you can save £200 on that quote. I wouldnt even bother with the air filters without checking the state of them first. Dont bother with the spark plugs and water pump.

It's a hotly debated topic and you need to draw your own conclusion but Renault say 72k or 6 years for both the 197 and 200 belts. Specialists say stick to the earlier schedule but then of course they would as they get the business.

i think it does depend on how confident you are with the spanners...so to speak. I know the filters should be easy but there are people in this world who wouldn't know where the oil cap was if they could unhook the bonnet...

I was quoted full service for £145 and cambelt waterpump £320 inc VAT so I'd say around £500 incl VAT is fair

Other option is source your own parts. EG I was quoted £45 for spark plugs and I picked them up myself for half that. They happily fitted em

Nothing wrong with the price IMO. Parts and consumables are probably close to 280 which leaves more than a couple of hours work to do for 400. Not sure if I would do all that work for much less than 400 if I had a workshop. Wont a smaller car also needs belts etc done at 60,000?

Do the coolant flush, oil change and spark plugs yourself, leave the pros to do the belts/waterpump/calipers.

That cant be using genuin parts thou, pay too cheap pay twice.

You can get a belt kit from eurocarparts for under £120. The kit is made by SKF who make kits for Renault. No point in paying £100 extra for a bit of white ink that says "Renault" when its the same kit.

Seems reasonable price, the nanodrive oil is very expensive, personally unless the other jobs are needed just get the belts done, do the oil yourself its an easy job plugs are a 5 min job..

I have decided now to buy all the service parts myself and with the help of mechanical friends will do these ourselves with as near genuine parts as we can
