Renault Sport Clio 197 Racing Red

Great project mate.

So, have you tried it vs Megane 275 Trophy?
Unfortunately, I couldn't make it to Rijeka.

Was relocating the alternator and removing the AC compressor.
We finished at 16h and didn't feel like going.

A friend of mine with 160/170bhp/880kg 106GTI ran with the Trophy 275 and he was faster 50-200 km/h.

Hope so too.

Everyone that I know have remapped their's 250's and I would really like to try with the stock one.

Any chance of some pics, interested to see how you went about it.....looking at de conning mine and also thought about relocating the alternator to make it a straight two pulley belt arrangement, or three including a tensioner.

Did the same thing as Marius (TNX for the idea :hug1:smile:.

The alternator is moved from the top position to the bottom. You have to change the cable route (done in 2 minutes).

Removed piping and the condenser weight:

Belt used:

You can rotate the alternator via it's lower mounting so it becomes the upper mounting once you remove the compressor, and you need to make just one bracket. I used OEM bolt (M 8, because there's no weight on this bracket, more weight and stress is on the upper bracket.

The biggest pain in the arse was fitting the belt and the tensioner because it's so short you almost don't need the tensioner (you NEED it, don't think about not installing it).

Sunday morning gathering (400bhp Cosworth and a 300bhp nitrous Rover)...

Now you've removed the AC - do you think you'll see a slight power increase from less parasitic losses now?

Nice weight saving though regardless of power :thumbup1:

I had so many issues during the past 4 years with the AC that at the last checkup (when it stopped working, AGAIN) I told my AC mechanic that I want one call going:

a) Rene, we've fixed your AC once and for all, you won't be having any more issues with it
b) Rene, your AC and all of it's parts are waiting for you in the box like you've specified.

So, I went for the option b), however, he couldn't remove the AC because it would require another pulley (I believe there's a Renault Sport AC delete kit selling for 200€ but that still leaves one extra pulley on the car) so, couple of months later I saw what @Counterdoc did on his car and I went like - WTF, that's genious!. So I did it last Sunday.

I expect a performance increase because of the <10kg loss and the loss of one pulley that wasn't so light. HOWEVER, will/is it (be) noticeable - my ass dyno says it isn't.

But I'm going in that direction now - lightening and removing all of the stuff that I don't need but (for now) I want to keep all of the seats. Even started thinking about some ligher Recaro base (carbon maybe...don't know...).

Cool, I havent seen what counterdoc did, but I want to keep the AC regardless anyway.

Could get some fixed back Recaros - save a decent amount of weight over the Renault/Recaro CS seats.

For now I want to keep the RCS seats, but the way things keep going I won't be surprised that in the future Pole Positions will take their place. :lol2:

I'm afraid those would be too complicated/hard to get in/out. I would want something that's lighter and not that complicated for a normal use.

But, let's cross that bridge when we get there. :thumbup1:
