Hello, picked this up last night. Coming from a Jaguar xf to this was a bit of a "surprise" but not totally unexpected as I did a fair bit of googling beforehand.
Noticed a couple of things that will need a bit of investigation though.
There is what sounds like a heatshield rattle/vibration (could be engine mounts ?) when pulling off, and a slight notchiness when changing down into third.
Planning on keeping it for a while so im prepared to spend on it to get it something like it should be.
The drive home was fun although I didnt give it the full beans.
Looking forward to reading through the forum for the help and advice.

Welcome. Heat shield rattles are common and will be easily detectable once on a ramp.
The downchanging into 3rd notch sounds like the dreaded gearbox synchros. Likeliest scenario anyway. Gearbox out job I’m afraid. Few companies charge less than a thousand to drop refurb and refit. Good luck

Absolutely. No reason to avoid 3rd just take a bit more care and try not to downshift at high rpm

Thanks, thats a relief. Just been for a little pootle about and kept it in the 5000rpm area, didnt seem too bad at all. And still a hoot to drive too.

You want to get it to 7,000 rpm to get the best out of it.

I did briefly, and once I have sorted the "niggles" out it will be driven how it should be driven... no point having a king size bed and just sleeping on one half !

Try some redline before you rebuild, cleared my notchy downshifts.

Must admit I did this back in the day and it helped. For clarity to the OP it’s Redline gearbox oil

Will do, i`ll order some and pop it up to the local garage for them to drain and change. Thanks

Thanks R20BTG, probably looks a bit better than it is. Its booked in for Redline gearbox oil and a couple of new Michelin ps4`s midweek.
