This is Mrs M's RB R27.
A bit of background... She's not had a car for 10 years + and was convinced that she didn't need one living in the city. Then a friend gave her an old beat up Polo for a few months and she realised straight away she liked having it. I've been trying to persuade her to buy a Clio for quite some time and this finally tipped her over the edge. Originally she wanted a 182 Trophy but I eventually convinced her a 197 was a better car overall and a better fit with her.
That hurdle vaulted, it was time to get an idea of what spec she wanted.
"I'd like an R27 in Racing Blue please..."
Great. 34 to choose from. That's not going to be easy...
A long a fruitless search ensued and I'd tried everything. Honestly, everything. Even messaging everyone I could find online who owned one to see if they would sell. One guy was interested but the mileage was too high. I'd pretty much given up hope and we'd actually been and looked at Nimbus and Albi R27s as an alternative but one afternoon an RB one appears on Gumtree. I was so on it the owner said I'd messaged him within three minutes of the advert going live. On the drive over I'm trying to keep her feet on the ground, "just prepare yourself, it might be a mess don't get too excited" but it was clear in her head she was already having it!
Thankfully, the car was an absolute credit to the owner who was a genuine top bloke. Serviced ahead of time every time, loads of extra maintenance, brand new OEM brakes, not a single mark on it anywhere inside or out. The only downers was a badly repaired driver's Recaro, lots of swirls in the paintwork and a touch higher mileage than we were hoping for at 50k. But it was clear the car had been very well looked after and treated respectfully. We pretty much knew when we left we were having it but best to get it checked over. As luck would have it there was a Renault specialist around the corner and it got a full inspection. "Absolutely fantastic car mate, I'd be buying it myself if I'd seen it"
Good enough for me.
So Mrs M drives home in a gorgeous R27 and I'm lucky enough to drive home in the knackered Polo. A few months in now and we both absolutely love it. I knew they were great fun cars but it's much more so than I was expecting.
This thread won't see much action if Mrs M gets her way. She's adamant it should stay standard. If it was up to me it would be quite different. Let's see if I can persuade her... At the very least there will be a projector upgrade, a retrim of the seat (if I get my way it will be a full leather and alcantara job) and a pro detail plus keeping on top maintenance obviously.
I've taken a load of photos of it but my phone died and I can't get at them until it's fixed, so here are a couple of wallpapers I did for her for now. Only phone shots again I'm afraid.
Cheers folks.
