r888s ready for spring

ive noticed you can get toyo r888s with 215/45/r17 take it its a straight swop from the regular tyres. thing is there 186 quid each!! OMG, i live in the middle of nowhere and surrounded by cross country roadds. can they be used on a daily basis or are they too harsh and noisy?

You can use them daily, but they are noisy, especially around town, and will probably knock 10% off your fuel economy. Plus they probably won't last more than around 6k in normal use, are no good with standing water, and if you get a puncture cannot be repaired.

I just bought a set off eBay for £400. Not from the guy above. The RRP is shocking so your better pickin them up if you see them going cheap.

A lot of Time Attack teams will be selling their surplus as next season they are changing to Pirrelis.

I'd also advise to just use 'em on the track. Too noisy and wont last long on normal roads.

There's loads of these suddenly very cheap, makes me think there's either a new version coming out or they're going to lose their road-legal status?

Make hay whilst the sun shines, cheap track tyres a-go-go!

When I enquired, the guy said they had been sitting around since 2008 :s

I personally think they'll be fine, not like they are a full slick. They are still a road tyre and as such will have a longer "shelf life"

Good Link Mike - looks like the main issue would be if they were to flex whilst being sub-zero, but even so, best to keep them warm.

I doubt theres many tire warehouses that are kept warm in a winter though, never mind someones shed or garage.
