PS4 on track

Hi ... looking into tyres . I know PS4 are good tyres ... but are they capable enough for 2 novice track days a year ?

How would they hold up ?

Reason for thinking behind the PS4 is that I like the ride comfort on the road they provide and can be used all rear round .

The others are the AD08R’s that also are perfectly good road tyre and probably a better track tyre than the PS4 but you do loose that comfort with them , due to the hard side walls .... with my car being used mainly on road what’s people’s thought ?

For reference , I’ll be covering 3-4K a year in the car

If you’re doing such a short mileage go for the ad08r!

The side wall is harder yes but will you notice it comfort wise, I hardly doubt it!

The PS4 will hold up on track but on a dry day it’ll be nowhere near as good

I went from ad08r to PS4 and there’s not much in it comfort wise. The yoko would be much better on track and dry roads but the PS4 would have a big advantage in the wet

Would the PS4 ‘s get completely ruined on track ? As in where out really quick , or do you think I’d get 2 track days and 3-4K road miles out of them ?

And I can get them around £150 cheaper than the AD08R ‘s .... which is another reason I’m thinking of them .

I have brand new coni sport 5’s on but not sure how these would hold up on a track day ?

Most tyres will hold up ok on a trackday, but obviously how much grip they give you will vary. Depends also on how the car is set up and you check pressures

I’ve done afew thousand roads miles and 4 Trackdays on my ad08r and they have plenty of tread left!

I’m in Southampton.... that’s the thing with the AD08R ‘s they really do last on track and road ... I’ve had a few sets and the only thing that puts me off them is the harder ride you get . Some say it’s not a lot in it ... but from my experience it’s quite a different to normal summer tyres

Heard such mixed reviews about them ....

It’s either the PS4 / AD08R... as I have ps4S on my Porsche and had the AD08R on other cars ... like how they both feel and feel familiar with them

PS4 is more of a do it all tyre. The ad08 is a decent tyre, but not a patch on the Michelin in damp and wet.
I run PS4 as my road and wet track tyre.

As above. Two sets of wheels and tyres. PS4 for driving to track/wet laps/road and Dunlop Direzzas for dry track use

I used PS4 for 3-4 track days a year plus around 5000 miles. Lasted over a year easily. Much better than the AD08r guys on a wet forum trip to Spa, but slower in the dry. For what you're describing I'd say they'll be fine. Ultimately I got another set of wheels with semi slicks for dry days once I had more track experience.

I run PS4 on my car, i've done 4 track days and about 12k miles on my fronts and they have load left! Epic tire and work so well in the wet. A big thing about road tires on track is heat management, let them warm up, don't overdrive them and then run a cool down lap.

Also if you're on stock suspension i'd stick to a PS4, AD08s come into their own once you have coilovers and a more aggressive alignment.
