Power expectations from near standard 197 set up

Sorry OP, that was my fault suggesting weight loss. As above really, these are really limited. I think having read around port matched manifolds, larger throttle body, Catcams, virtually straight through exhaust and remap you *may* see 230bhp but I would say peak power would shift and its already high at around 7500. Its a bit of a testament to show how much Renault have evolved this engine.

If you got rid of one of the cats a remap may get 5bhp. Not about power increase, itll make it smoother as they naturally have a flatspot at 2-2500 which is emphasised with a decat.

There is absolutely no point in remapping a standard engine that has no mods like you say... Renault claim 200bhp but they never make that on the rollers. You'll be lucky to see 190bhp if that. With an exhaust and filter you'll still be lucky to see 197bhp.. Get ya wallet out if you want power!

No you are totally wrong there is every point in my scenario in remapping a standard engine. If I choose to race the Clio this year in Road trim in the specific class I would target then 5 - 10 WHP will be significant. So an induction kit, first cat removal high flow 200 cell cat, decent exhaust manifold and remap would give the small gains required.
Your answer is typical of many I have seen over the years on forums no real information coupled with the assumption that everyone new is a moron and all answers can be found by searching. If no one asked questions and relied on previous threads how long would a forum survive ?
If I choose to spend significant money on a car, as I did with my Impreza, then I will first make sure it's the right car and that it can be competitive. I am not interested in pub power figures more whether the car can be made to be competitive in the events I would choose to race in.

You wouldn't get 230hp with just that. There's been a few builds using bodies etc and they have yet to crack 230hp? Plus then you're into forging and the cost for it all you may aswell go down the boost route.

Yes agree that to get to around 230HP then more intrusive mods are required. The reality is that those power gains are not logical in terms of power increase v cost. For me given the work load I have next year I would not have time to build this into a Clio with decent power but its not hard to do properly and isnt anything I have not done before with other cars.

But you're talking about power figures not driveability in your first post? As already stated they do have a flat spot at 2.5k so remapping the car would make this much better. However, if you floating between 5-7k ''racing'' then you will never notice the flat spot. 5-10bhp won't be noticeable IMO. Also you stated no engine mods but now you say that there will be some mods? which means yes map it then! But with a standard engine/setup up I'm saying don't bother mapping it)

I totally agree with you, but there is a lot of information already on this forum. Plus there's a lot of build threads on here which have been going on for years along with various other things which are updated daily etc etc.

I have raced in the Scottish Hill Climb and Sprint Championship for many years amen more recently done Superlap Scotland which is a bit like time attack but the classes are based on power to weight.
The Impreza I have just broke I had for around 13 years and took it from a road car to a very lightweight (1060kg) track only car with 551 BHP at the wheels. Apart from the engine build and geometry set up I done all the work myself.

Bloody stunning! Why an earth are you in a Clio now. Not much would compare especially an N/A Clio

Lots of reasons time pressures, cost year on year to remain competitive etc etc I could build a 300 HP Clio for half the cost of the Impreza. OK it would be in a lower class but would still be a hoot may just need a good book for the longer straights

No I was sponsored by Whiteline who done the geometry and advised on all the suspension parts although I do know Simon well and he did advise a lot especially on Turbo spec along with Lee Owen at Owen developments

Sorry missed the engine bit, the engine build was done by Alyn at AS Performance it'''a back with Alyn being refreshed before it goes up for sale for around the £7k mark.

Sorry mate only just seen this reply.
ITG panel filter, decat manifold, miltek exhaust with decat pipe, smaller lightweight crank pulley, AC delete, tensioned through the alternator so no tensioner. Was looking for the minimum parasitic loss from the engine. Mapped on 99ron as I've always run my cars on that, you'll
know all the reasons behind that with Knock prevention and mapping with the best fuel. Need to get my flywheel lighted too. Would make a massive difference.
