POTM 'Theme' ideas and Feedback thread

Hi guys, we did a similar thread to this last year, asking for your opinions and feedback on POTM. I wanted to do the same again to get an up-to-date idea of what you all thought of this little contest we have going on.

As you may be aware, we alternate between a 'Themed' competition and a 'Free for All' month.

Firstly, are you still happy with this alternation, or would you prefer something different?

Secondly, with regards the themes, do you have some suggestions as to what you would like to see as a theme?

This is open to everyone to comment on, not just those that like to enter, but also to those who like to vote, or even just admire the photos each month.

you all know my opinion on this i love it...

theme ideas though..

you guys do such a brilliant job i wouldn't want to infringe on your creative talent.. ( i only have one idea )

i don't know if this would apply to everybody (not Trackdays) but modifications take that as you will.. wheels tyres brakes meg engines seats or what the close up idea made the think of this..

I prefer more themes as it pushes people a bit more, but the hard part is deciding on a theme that you think will prove popular I guess.

maybe have a track theme / wilderness / beach or mountainous ones?

It's biased towards British members but I'll know how to counter that. I'll bring in some Russians the next time I'm going to participate. They seem to have some mad skills in influencing elections.

Of course I'm not serious!

Not great suggestions but I do like the odd themed month

I think the current position works well, however, it does put you admins under some pressure to keep coming up with themes as there are only so many that would be conducive to a good competition.

Two ways around this would be:

1. Have a list of the twelve best themes you/we can come up with to cover the months in a year and then start at the start again each January. For example January's POTM is always "dirty car used and abused", February is always "look mum I've done a detail", March is always... etc.

or

2. Winner of the previous POTM gets to pick the theme for the next one.

But if you guys can keep coming up with stuff, I think it works well as it is.

How is it biased towards British members? Or is that included in your "of course I'm not serious"?

Dirty would be a good theme I say!

May have me swerving towards the puddles rather than around them! Change my mentality as a driver!

Totally agree with you here and I like the idea of the winner choosing a new theme. I think it would keep people more involved.

Thank you very much for all the feedback so far, I'm really happy with this! It's exactly what I was after. And it's nice to see that POTM is still well-liked.

Well, the 'we' coming up with the themes is, ahem, just me at the moment, so I'm extremely grateful for all the suggestions of specific ones. I like to think that the past themes we've had have always been pretty popular (with the odd exception), but it's really good to see ideas from other people's imaginations

I am tempted to do a trackday theme one month, and the reason there hasn't been one in the past, is that the number of regular trackday-goers is relatively small, so I want to try and get as many people as involved as possible. However you could say the same for something like a 'detailing/dirty car' theme: not everyone details their car/lets it get dirty So watch this space

I quite like @///M 's suggestions, of having a set theme for the months each year, that is something to bear in mind for the future... As for the winner making the choice, I do like this too, however there is always the possibility that they could choose something ideal for them.... Maybe I'm being a bit cynical there!

@Jimmy regarding the winner having the choice of the next theme, there's an easy way around that. If you win the month before, you're not eligible to enter for the next month with the theme that you have chosen.

Although I guess that opens it up to the winner setting a really crap theme on purpose!
