Petrol smell and small leak

When i fill my clio 197 to the brim it leaks fuel and stinks of the stuff. I could see dots down the road as i pulled into my house (which is at slow speed) and a small slick under the car when parked). I spoke to a friend about it and he seemed to think this was normal for a car that had been filled to the brim but i didn't think so. It's recently had a fuel pump change so was wondering whether it is normal or the garage have made a mistake and that's what's causing it? Thanks in advance Dan

Is it dripping out the filler cap?

Either way that's not normal.

it should not leak fuel at all.....as it is also covered under emissions from vehicles including petrol fumes vented back to the engine

sounds like its not been fixed correctly....

Either leaking from the fuel pump locking ring or the filler neck tube as both require removal to change the pump so it's likely they've been refitted incorrectly.

You may possibly get away with changing the locking seal ring on the pump from under the interior access panel.
