Oil cooler

hi guys! What do you think for this upgrade?

you know that especially in the summer our oil run around 135°C... in track!

Can't do any harm...if you can afford it - go for it.

I can only imagine problems in winter/cooler periods - longer period till your oil heats.

for heat i would go for it especially track days and also all the money you have spent on the new crank and rods etc

as for over cooling - use a thermostatically controlled oil cooler

^ Foxspeed is right.. I ran quite a large oil cooler on my Nissan 200sx and with a thermostatic switch it worked perfectly.

Most quality oil would be OK up to and around a constant 130oC, some more pricey oils will be OK at 150oC.

I seem to recall with a huge cooler in place it kept the oil at around 110oC on and off track, without it I was in the 140's... So, I guess if you do regular track days, it's worth looking at.

We are going to make a good group buy and ask to my mech to make a kit!
On the 1.8 16v there is a difference of 15°C less with the radiator..

197 already has a heat exchanger around the oil filter housing to cool the oil via coolant.

I was told silkolene pro s will run at 150 degrees all day long before breaking down.

Wouldn't bother in the uk, but maybe in hotter countries.

i am sure monza is a bit hotter than essex :tongueout:

if your oil is going above 120 degree's it will significantly loose its film strength and increase your chances of big end failure heat exchanger is there to aid warm up times more than any thing.i would run a cooler

I was going to do this but was advised it was un-necessary and could cause problems like a drop in oil pressure causing more damage than when you started, over cooling is only an issue when not driving so hard in cooler weather but as he said you can get it to work on a stat like ure fan etc.

you have to start thinking about baffled sumps to stop hard cornering starvation and uprated pumps seriously dont think its worth the hassle, have you had a oil temp gauge fitted to your car? so how much it fluctuates before you take the plunge

many thanks for your advise!

but a lowest oil temperature, is not better? the oil @ high temp have a not good value..

oil has an optimal temperature im sure yes but i dont think 145 would exceed its operating temerature check with your supplier

sump is baffled to begin with

as for over here probably not but in monza heat and the use and mods to his engine a worthwhile safety margin

uprated pump to be safe to? without it, it would drastically increase the risk of failure
