Oil breather

Is this the black circle between the oil dipstick and throttle body and can it be replaced with an proper filter breather ?

That's the better option. I you just stick a little filter on then you'll be venting oil vapour all over the underneath of your bonnet and all over you engine. With a Catch Tank, the vapour has somewhere to gather once it cools and you can then just empty it away...

i brought some pipe and a catch tank to fit on the 197, but never got round to fitting it, can buy it if you like

If the engines in good condition it shouldn't breath that heavily anyway so don't worry about mess from the breather filter.

Ive got a catch tank fitted and in 2000 miles theres not been a drop of oil. In the misses 182 though she does short journeys everyday so it fills up with water once a month lol.

Ok cheers anyone got pics of where the pipes will go

No pics to hand but the pipe at the rear of the head above the exhaust manifold on a 90 degree adaptor facing the O/S, this vents to the inlet via the vacuum control valve.

On mine that runs direct to the catch tank and I also have the gearbox breather venting into the catch tank too  obviously you'll have to block the inlet up.
