OE Front brakes

How much would you expect to pay for Renault discs and pads on the front of a 197 please?

My independent specialist is saying about £400 fitted with VAT, which seems steep to me.

I am thinking of pulling the car and going for more performance oriented after market, although the car is standard and I don't intend doing trackdays.

Any suggestions please? Thanks!

That is steep tbh.

Some people upgrade to mtec brakes, you can get them drilled/grooved opposed to solid oem.

Oh and they are cheaper, about £90 for the fronts iirc.

Front OE discs and pads come to £193 (Discs £120, Pads £70, Delivery £3). It's definitely something you can attempt to do yourself imo. Not sure how long it would take a garage to change the discs and pads. I would hazard a guess at a hours labour each side. As Chris has said, they can be bought cheaper from mtec with the option of grooves, dimples and drilled discs and at a cheaper price. An advantage of the mtec discs are that you can get them coated in different finishes to prevent them from rusting too.

Thanks guys, that is very useful information.
Even with my cack handed mechanical skills, I think an hour per side should be enough (although I hear that the pad retaining pins can be tricky).
Think I need to call the garage at 8am and have a little word...

I recently replaced my front discs / pads / refurbished my brembos.

I used the following :

Discs (2 year guarantee so no issues here)

Pads

£88 all in for front discs and pads.

As for the caliper pad retaining pins , I bough a proper set of punches to do the job which made easy work of them. I wouldt risk using anything else as you may slip and Mark the calipers

Give the job a try yourself if you can , you could have it all done and dusted for under £100. No need to pay Renault prices

Hope that helps.

Rs tuning charged me less than 300 to replace the disks, pads and replace the exhaust clamps, but I already had the new pads.

Apol - looking into it I paid £120 for the brembo discs and pads and a further £15 for the mintex pin kit.

Looks like I bought one of the last sets as they are no longer listed on ebay by seller fos1133 (FoS Autoparts)

In the end, after questioning the costs, I went with the independent. They use parts from Renault that we all know are cheaper when bought from Brembo.
To their credit, they threw in a brake fluid change and aircon service. They also had a nightmare with rusy retaining screws etc.
When I do the rears I shall buy them first and then get them fitted, but I now have a year's mot and hopefully not too much cost.

Is there anything that I can use on the new disc bell to stop them rusting? I guess ACF 50 would just melt and run everywhere?

Don't forget that, although the pins are supplied in pairs (Renault at least), you need a pair for each wheel, ie 2 pairs per axle - really annoying when you have to re-order half way through a job!!

Wouldn't be going anywhere near a garage that quoted such a ridiculous price and then threw 'free' stuff in as a result of questioning. Free stuff that cost them nothing but a short amount of time. What on earth is their labour rate?
